We're about to leave for Flagstaff, and I won't be online until Monday. Probably in the afternoon!
I'm sure you'll all be fine; the question is whether I'll be able to make it, or whether I'll be bumming a ride to my almost-step-sister's apartment to use her internet connection.
Anyway, have a good weekend, everyone, and please pray that us wussy Southern Californians don't all freeze in the snow.

I highly reccomend the natural water slide (of course I was there about 10-15 years ago so it may not be that near flagstaff, may not still be in operation, and will probably be much colder than when we were there in the mid-summer time-frame.) =p

So*, yes, we're back, I'm okay, no baby problems while there (although the altitude combined with the baby taking up space left me a little short of breath, but we weren't doing much walking.)
There was a blizzard!
The wedding was very nice. The only bad things about it were a) Emma was sleep deprived and talked and sang loudly through prayers, songs, and vows (she actually sang along and swayed to the song, it was kinda cute, really), although at least she did not scream, and b) they had meatballs, my aversion this pregnancy, at the reception and it was impossible for me to look anywhere without seeing and smelling them. I got a little queasy.
Also, did I mention the blizzard? It was just heavy snow when we got there, but it was blizzarding (blowing snow so hard you couldn't see or walk in it) by the time we were driving back from the family dinner. (Luckily, that didn't last long.) We had to stop on the way back so that I could de-ice the windshield and the wipers, which were frozen solid with chunks of ice. Oh, and rentals with snow-rated tires are not really available in Flagstaff, except SUVs, which were of course sold out a month ago and also cost about $300 for a weekend, before tax... We were in a little tiny Chevy. But at least it was only a month or so old-- brand new tires.
Jeff had his first spin-out. Ever. My dad and his fiancé were also in the car with us. (The little, tiny car.) We had no choice but to go down a (luckily very short) hill that had not been plowed or driven on, well, all day. Jeff handled it beautifully. We didn't go into a bank, we didn't hit anything, and we stopped before the intersection. Emma enjoyed it, and giggled, clapped, and yelled, "Beep, beep! A-gun! (again!)" after it happened.
We made it just fine to church at 1 in the afternoon Sun. (at which point it had almost stopped snowing and plows had been going non-stop), only to find out it had been canceled. Wusses! (There was a note on the door reminding anyone who showed up to remember to be grateful for the moisture we had received. )
Because we had already checked out and we were informed that my almost-step-sister's house was inaccessible (leaving their house was where we had spun out the evening before), we ended up at the mall. Not really what we like to do on a Sunday, but it was kind of an ox-in-the-mire situation. And the mall was warm. And they had an awesome play area where Emma happily spent the entire afternoon, until we were ready to meet my dad, his fiancé, and the almost-step-sister and her husband for dinner (their house having been finally plowed out by then.)
The snow was really beautiful. I'd honestly never seen snow like that before; in SoCal, when it rains, we almost always get little bitty drops, and the snow, even in the mountains, is the same thing-- pinpricks not recognizable as the same stuff you see in the movies. This was true, honest-to-goodness fluffy snow. Big, gorgeous flakes that were individually discernible, did not immediately melt on contact with a coat, and were, well, snowy. Emma loved it so much she kept begging to put her coat on (which she had protested when we got to the train station) and pull her hood up (ditto-- she hates things on her head with very few exceptions) so she could go outside and watch it. She was not happy Sunday morning until she could go outside and eat her oatmeal in the snow, watching it fall from under an overhang. (I then declared that she is totally her father's child; he has told me that when he was in Idaho, he loved to go out on the balcony in the winter, all bundled up, and drink hot chocolate while watching the snow. Freaks. )
Despite all the snow, most of the weekend I was actually warm enough; I had plenty of layers, warm boots, and Jeff's Idaho coat (none of my warm coats fit me while I'm pregnant! Luckily his is oversized, and he had another warm coat.)
The only really bad parts of the weekend were that, of course, the trains were running late, Emma did not like to sleep on them (last night she didn't go to sleep until one of the conductors, who has a three-year-old, took pity on us and let us go in the dark, abandoned, closed dining car where she screamed it out, then got four hours-- an hour more than she had gotten on the ride out), and that I was sick the whole time (but actually didn't feel that crummy-- just lost my voice, but really nothing else horrid; my congestion is pretty much gone and it seems to be getting out of my system.)
So, that's it, I hope I didn't miss anything... If I did, you won't know anyway. (But I will answer questions if you have any. )

This hits a little too close to home. Sounds like every single Church meeting I've been in for the past 3 months.
Yesterday, my Papoose (same age) saw them getting ready to pass the sacrament (Lord's Supper) and she started yelling, "Water! Water! Water! Water! ..." Emma never does that at our church; I think she was just overtired and knew it wasn't the same thing, since we didn't start with a hymn and it didn't look, you know, LDS-chapel-ish, and she therefore assumed that "church rules" didn't apply. Or didn't care. Luckily, everyone thought it was cute.
But I think she's going to be audible on the wedding video.

Why didn't you leave the wedding when your daughter started being disruptive?
People might be telling you that it was cute, but I wouldn't like someone's child screaming and yelling during my wedding and that his/her mother wouldn't take them outside to quiet them down before returning.

jh, you'll see that kq said that Emma only talked and sung loudly, rather than screamed.
From my perspective - we made a conscious decision to invite kids to our wedding. As a result we had much whispering, chattering and one quiet game of chasey during the vows (the ceremony was outside). And I didn't care one little bit. Posts: 4393 | Registered: Aug 2003

I have to second what imogen wrote. If you invite small children to your wedding (and Emma is just barely a toddler), then you have to be prepared for them to act like children.

I find talking and singing during an event as serious as a wedding disruptive. A disturbance is a disturbance. If the other attendees and the couple getting married doesn't care, then that's good.

Totally your decision. Hope, the bride, has sisters and brothers young enough that they were flower girl, ring bearer, and junior bridesmaids along with two of her nieces and her nephew. (She's one of 12, third oldest.) Add in all the cousins and such, and Emma was not the only, the loudest, or the most disruptive child there. It was a very informal wedding, and that's the way they wanted it. If Ems had screamed, she would have left, and she did make an effort to calm down when we reminded her that she was in a church. But no one minded; the people near us occasionally looked around and smiled, and the toddler behind us kept making more noise than she was trying to get her attention! It was a little embarrassing for us at the time, because we know that she has it in her to behave better than that, but we don't blame her; she's not even two and was under a lot of stress. And Hope and Mark both specifically told me how thrilled they were that we could make it, and that Emma was able to come, too. (They want kids right away, as you might have guessed...) It would have been more disruptive to be standing up and trying to get to the door, while Emma started screaming because she didn't want to leave, and probably would have been heard from the hall, instead of just reminding her that she needed to be as quiet as she could.
