I drive by the Admiral Twin Theatre on an almost daily basis. This is the drive-in featured in the movie The Outsiders. Rarely do I look twice at the movie theatre. Only at night when the movies are playing to we try to get a sneak peek at what is playing.

Well, yesterday we noticed Ratatouille and Pirates 3 was playing. We decided to load the kids up and go. It had been a long time since either of us have been to the drive-in. Our kids have never had the experience. What a throwback to my childhood (fitting, considering the ending of Ratatouille). We loaded up the ice chest with pop, popped a bunch of popcorn, got candy along the way, and brought in dinner. We turned the suburban around and sat in the back on pillows and blankets, and sat on lawn chairs.

The screen is not great and you miss some fine detail. The dark scenes on Pirates 3 were a little hard to see. They got rid of the little metal speaker and now broadcast on FM radio, so you can actually get stereo sound.

We spent $19 on admission for two first run movies. Alot of the snacks and soda we already had. And aside from a few mosquito bites, we had a great time.

Does anyone else have drive-in's near you? Do you go?

I go to the Fun-Lan Drive-In in Tampa about once a month or so. It's a lot of fun. [Smile] Screen quality varies from theater to theater. For instance, the Thunderbird in Fort Lauderdale is awful; I wouldn't recommend seeing any movies there. The one in Tampa is quite a bit better. Also, it sounds like my theater is cheaper than yours.

It was $19 for two adults and three kids. Our fourth kid was free.

I was in Tampa the first week of June. I should have put out a call for a TampaCon.

I think there's one in Ojai, but I've never been.

We go to the one in Everett all the time, since that's the only way we can watch movies with the baby [Smile] Saw Transformers and Shrek 3 there last night, and Surf's Up, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Ocean's 13 there a few nights before.

$8.50 for a double- or triple-feature is a killer deal.
