It seems that the His Dark Materials trilogy are going to be made into films. I love that story and am listening to The Golden Compass in my car each day as I commute!

This is going to be a very hard story to bring to the screen. I read that the author wants Nicole Kidman to play Mrs. Coulter.

Kidman's the perfect choice for that roll, I'd say.

Me too! They could make her hair dark which would go great with her light complexion. I could totally imagine her with that soft reasurring voice and evil temper.

Well, sure there are fans of the series.

I just don't know what to say about this adaptation. On a very shallow level, it seems like just another attempt to bring a great trilogy to the silver screen, with little regard to how well it would actually translate.

I'll have to think on it. I love the books - very much so, in fact - but I don't know how well the movie will go over with the general public.
