What kinds of interesting, different decoration ideas have you seen or used?
Right now, I'm painting my kitchen-type-area with very bright blue cabinets. I want to paint the long wall in the living room some color, too. And get a new couch. This place needs to be severely brightened up.

When we bought our house the prior owners had hung glass-paned doors on a couple of the bedrooms. (!?)
Rather than getting rid of the doors and hanging solid doors for a touch more privacy, I kept the glass-paned doors and incorporated them into the design. In one room, I hung a full-length curtain on the inside of the door to match the window curtains. In another room, I glued fancy handmade rice paper to the inside of the wood frames of the panes (not touching the glass), for a shoji screen effect.

My den is done in faux suede with my western collection all around. There is a shelf the wraps around the entire room to hold my collection of breyer horses. We painted our hallway an orange color called native corn and all the pictures there are of barns in the fall. Out of my house the best I saw was a guy who did his basement to resemble the bridge of the Enterprise. It was a very cool designed room!

There was a great Grad Guide in the Post that suggested painting your main walls one base color (matte). Then take painter's tape and mark off the room in fourths (i.e. four horizontal stripes that go all the way around the room). Then paint every other stripe with the same color paint except in semi-gloss.
It sounded like a great idea, and I can't wait to move into my new apartment so I can try it.

Just make sure you get the tape off right away. You can also get the same effect by just taping off and usuing a clear gloss for the stripes!
