I went in for an interview for a position doing data entry with an accounting firm. The pay was so low, I thought I'd probably not be able to accept their offer, but the qualifications were ones I have-- knowledge of Quickbooks and Excel-- so I thought I'd go in anyway. As it turns out, they were impressed by my experience and competence and the fact that I'm in school to complete my degree in Accounting and am working on tax certification as well. They offered me more than I had hoped for, on a salary rather than hourly basis, and health benefits as well (to kick in after 90 days.) My first evaluation will be in 30 to 45 days, and at that point I may be moved up to a supervisory position. The company is expanding, and down the line there may be chances for management opportunities, maybe even eventually in an office closer to home (the commute is about 45 minutes out and probably 30 or so back, but it's L.A., so I'm not complaining too much-- my mother-in-law commutes an hour each way on days when she doesn't have a clinic at an outlying facility, and my father-in-law commutes almost that long. Some people I know commute as long as 2 hours each way. I guess I'll get real fond of books on tape.)
So, things are looking up, and hopefully all will go well.
Just thought I'd share.

Sounds like a great opportunity, KPC. Here's hoping it materializes into that supervisor and, eventually, management position!

So, the first day went great! The drive is a little longer than I thought, but not horrible. I really like the people that I work with and everyone seems so nice. I think I impressed one of the bosses when I did a project in less than half a day. Apparently, they are used to it taking all day.
There is a little adjustment waking up at 6:00 AM, leaving by 7:15, and getting home at 6:45 PM. I am tired now, but KQ said I needed to give an update. Perhaps more to come....
