So much respect he tried to shove, what, two, three versions at us before, so the hardcore fans will buy multiple copies?
I'll probably have to go and buy this set when it comes out (my inner child won't let me do otherwise), but I'll feel dirty while I'm doing it.

I too shall feel dirty while buying it...and also slightly used, but I have a strong desire to see Han Solo shoot first and I can't for the life of me remember what Han said in the original trilogy when he pushes Luke into the Tauntaun, they changed it in the SE. It's been bugging me for a while.
Of course, I could just look it up, but that would be easy.

Meh. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Except for the whole Greedo shooting first, I say the current version available on DVD is superior in just about every way. And I grew up with the originals too.
P.S. I've always been a Lucas defender, but I gotta say that this has nothing to do with what the fans want. If he cared, he would have done this years ago. It's just another way to milk more money out of the same 3 movies. He waited long enough so that even the hold-outs would give up and by the SEs on DVD, and then releases the originals so that they won't be able to resist buying them too.

I'm so excited about this. I didn't buy the first set of DVDs for precisely this reason. The originals are back! No more annoying CG singer in Jabbas palace. YAY!

Say what you will, but no one is ever going to convince me that the celebration song at the end of RotJ is better in the original.

16. George Lucas comes to your house and reads the special "This is really the way I intended Star Wars to be. Seriously, I mean it this time" edition script for all six movies.

This is precisely the version I was waiting for. I don't own a single Star Wars DVD, in fact, having figured that someday he'd release the originals.

I have waited for this day with bated breath and whispering humbleness. <big inhale>
Note: the only pirated DVD in my entire collection is the Laser Disc version of the original trilogy transferred to DVD by a guy on EBay. I will happily toss this in the trash when I get the official, digitially enhanced, Solo shoots first version. Yay!

I'll buy 'em, on one condition: that "as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film" doesn't mean they're using unrestored prints.
Assuming that they're going to make the transfer clean enough to eat off of, I'd like to say that it'd be the last edition of these movies that I'll buy - but I have a weak spot for gag reels.

I kind of wanted original trilogy with the prequels in a big box set....just to have all 6 in one place. I bet they come out with that in another couple years or so. I probably won't wait for it, this is too good to pass up.

Lucas already said last year that he intends to release all six films on a holographic console of some sort. He said that ILM/Lucasfilm was working on the technology, and that he expected to have it released before the end of the decade.
I saw Attack of the Clones in IMAX, and that was friggin awesome. Cept the lightsaber fight at the end almost gave the audience an attack of epilepsy, a six story tall lightsaber fight in the dark will do that. But I can only imagine what a truly 3D/Holo movie would look like.

He projects the movie directly into your head... They invent a way to make people live all 6 movies for as long as the movies take and then you wake up about 20 years later and everyone is just GONE.
All I have is a magpied version of the original trilogy.

I'm actually kinda excited about this. I'm not a big SW fan or anything but I have fond memories of watching the original trilogy growing up.
Still, I DESPISE the prequels and refused to buy the originals after Lucas went in and digitally-added that Hayden kid.
Now I won't have any excuse to deny myself. And maybe each copy sold will be a slap in Lucas' face. I'm sure the money will line his pockets fine but it makes me feel less guilty about enjoying a memory from my childhood.

I was surfing through the wikipedia content on all of this and I ran across the article "Lucas Bashing" there is a very heated (and geeky) argument going on in the forum there about something.... I can't really tell what. Still, this is pretty darn funny to me.

My husband is about to wet his pants! He called me from work to tell me. He said something important was coming out that my 18 month old daughter must have. I figured it was a new educational toy or something. No. It was this. He says she must see that Han shot first! He's excited that he can show her the greatest movie ever in it's original form. I hope her reaction to it is as excited as he is. He's really building this up. He's going to get her this t-shirt to watch it in I think! http://www.thinkgeek.com/pvp/swag/712c/Posts: 601 | Registered: Sep 2002
