"Sincerity -- I can fake that."

I could have sworn this was from Groundhog Day when the McDowell's character talking about what she wants in a man and Murry's character is talking about how well he fits.

But earlier this month I watched the movie and that quote isn't in there.

Does anybody know where it's from?

Agh, I KNOW I've heard that somewhere. I really hope someone comes up with the answer soon though, because I seriously cannot remember.

(Also, I used up my "gah I can't remember this useless information" phone-a-friend today, so I feel like I probably shouldn't do it again.)

Of course there is, because I've heard it too. I just can't ... remember ... where.

According to bored.com, the quote is from Bill Clinton. [Edit: bored.com attributes it to both Clinton and Hawkeye Pierce]

A few random sites attribute it to Hawkeye Pierce.

What about this one; it's been bothering me for weeks. An man with an accent, possibly Italian, rolling the r's, saying with a tone of amazed disbelief: "You forgot? You FORGOT?"

That line sounds perfect for Hawkeye.

BJ was not in all 11 seasons.

Anyway, I think I know which episode it was. But I don't have time to look up episode titles right now -- maybe after I fly back tonight.

I'm glad I don't remember that one. BJ is at his best when he's reminiscing about Peg and Erin. BJ shouldn't be sleeping with random women, and he certainly shouldn't be bragging about it to Hawkeye.

The quote was not about him sleeping with her (although if it's the episode I'm thinking of, he did later and was subsequently wracked with guilt and remorse). It's about her talking to BJ, and giving Hawkeye the cold shoulder.

(The choice of "scored" by the poster on that other board was a bad one.)

And I've found descriptions of the episode (that I think has the line) online, but none longer than a few sentences.

It's "Hanky Panky," episode #U-822, and labeled either 114, 116, or 5-19 by various online episode guides. Season 5, JT. Let us know if it's the right one, please.

Lyrhawn,

if you truly have MASH on DVD, would you watch the Season 9 episode "Depressing News" to see if the famous "It doesn't do anything" quote is in there? I had seen that episode a few days before I came across the thread on Hatrack and I was sure that Hawkeye said that to the guy from Stars and Stripes who came to interview him after he built a tower of tongue depressors. Nobody believes me and I don't have access to the DVDs right now.
