It's a line of CDs being released that is pretty much a primer on the artists with their biggest hits and cuts from albums that describe their sound range. I've bought 2 of them (the Clash and Iron Maiden) and found them pretty good. Here's a list of the bigger names they have in this series- Bruce Springstein Bob Dylan Judas Priest Billy Joel Sublime and many more, it's a pretty huge series and if you know of an older artist (in that they've been around for 10+ years) that you wanna try and they have a disc in this series, this is where you can start! Having said that... they skip some songs of the artist that really are essential (i.e. from the Clash's essential album they condense all of their London Calling+ career to one disc) are cut because the songs have to be squeezed on to 2 discs.

Yeah, I got the Bob Dylan and Billy Joel ones and thy are pretty good as greatest hits stuff goes, they always throw in one or two not so great but still goods one that I really I like.

I found the Essential Leonard Cohen CD to be excellent. If I recall correctly, he chose the songs and specified the order.

You sound like a TV commercial for the newest collection I should've read this a couple of hours ago, though. I went to Best Buy to buy a couple of new CDs, and after making a pass through all of the aisles without looking for anything in particular I bought an Eric Clapton collection called "The Cream of Clapton". I've only heard about a third of the songs on it before and I haven't listened to the CD yet so hopefully it'll be good. Anyone ever bought it?

I have the Billy Joel one (well my sister has it ). While I had heard of and loved many of the songs before I listened to them over and over, I'm rather too young to tell you if the collection is a good one.
Scene from an Italian Restaurant isn't on it though.

Actually I have The Cream Of Clapton. Or well I bought it for my dad for father's day but it's in my car.
I really don't know that much about him, other than he was in Cream, and he's pretty talented. It's a good cd, with some songs you may recognise even though you don't know the name.

Cream of Clapton is a great CD. I haven't listened to it recently, but I recall it being quite at home in my CD player. Also, Eric Clapton is the man.
Edit: as in "You da man!" not "Damn the man."

I should've read this a couple of hours ago, though.
