This sort of confirms the rumors that at least some of the names given in previous reports were in fact "placeholders" for the actual character names.

I remember hearing that Soundwave will be a boombox sitting in Air Force One. I think it might have been in the Latino Review review. I'll go check.
EDIT Yep:

Bubmblebee will not be in this movie. Instead, there will be a completely different autobot that they will call Bumblebee.

I present a short skit. To be taken tongue in cheek.
Back in 2002:
"Have you heard that Spider-Man will have organic webs in the new movie instead of inventing web-shooters?"
"What? That does it. This will not be the real Spider-Man, just a completely different character that they'll call Spider-Man!"
Back in 2001:
"Hey, they've deleted all of the Tom Bombadil stuff, replaced Glorfindel with Arwen, changed the sequence of countless events..."
"But there's some beautiful stuff in those chapters! That's a bad sign for these Lord of the Rings movies. Bet the whole thing will be totally generic.
Back in 1978:
"It says here Donner has decided that Clark's entire career as Superboy never happened in his new movie, and Ma Kent will still be alive when he leaves for Metropolis!"
"How could they change so much stuff and still call this Superman? Man...now I don't know if I want to see it."
Things change in adaptations. Does it always hurt the core concepts?
Well, yes. A lot of the times it does. But I think there are examples where things were changed, but the core concepts were intact. Willing to wait and see on this one.

Anyone have a transcript of the webcast? I'm curious as to the questions that were asked in the Q&A that followed the announcement.

webcast was kind of a dud they could have just as easily posted the list online somewhere. I can see the need to change bumblebee, not to disappointed with that. If that is truely prime's paint job that disappoints me some. I wish they would have shown what the characters will look like.

There are so many rumors and what not out there about this movie, it's impossible to know what anything is until we actually see it next year, or get closer to the release date anyway.
I heard Soundwave was going to be a helicopter, but then they were afraid of pissed off fanboys, so they changed him back to a stereo, but weren't comfortable with the graphics or some such, and wanted to hold him over for the second movie so they could do him justice.
I think if they do Soundwave they need to do Blaster (that's the name of the Autobot boombox right?).
I think the Autobot missing that I really really miss the most is Grimlock. Maybe they could make the Dinobots the theme of the second movie that is likely to happen. I won't be surprised to see this turn into a trilogy if this movie doesn't totally blow, but I'd love if they made a Transformers IV, to cap it all off, and have it be a live action version of the cartoon movie. Hot Rod and Kup I believe the voices are still alive for.
Even with all the changes, and with how nervous I am about the overall shape this is taking, I still can't help but be totally excited about this movie. Other than Pirates 3, I can't think of anything coming out next year (is next year Caspian?) that I'm as excited for.

Agreed. This isn't, say, on the level of turning Green Lantern into a Jack Black comedy.
On topic, here are some pics (from the back) of Ironhide.

Why would I hate that? It looks like Prime to me, just with a different paint job.
The rest of the body that goes to those pieces resembles nothing of Optimus Prime. They look like Bionicle toys.
