My two year agreement is up tomorrow with Verizon and I get my new every two deal for a new phone. I have been looking at the palm treo's for a while and am seriously considering purchasing one. Just wondering what other people think about them.

Just some background. I coach and teach. I really like palm software and like the palm feature in the phone. I also type a lot of word and excell pages. I communicate almost entirely through e-mail with my athletic staff and other coaches. This is why I lean a little toward the buying of a stupidly expensive phone. Just want to make sure it's not my "I need a new toy" disease that is takling over. Those of you that have one do you actually use it enough to justify the price?

While I personally do not have one, my boss does. Which means I've gone through all the headaches of setting one up and learning to use it with none of the benefit of actually having one...

Work-related ranting aside, he does seem to use his Treo (650 I believe) a great deal. Particularly the contacts, calander, scheduling, and phone aspects. He knows it can send e-mail, but at the moment that isn't something we're set up for at the office, but will be soon. If I ever begin to consistenly use a Palm, I'll likely get one myself if only so I have one less thing to carry around (and to lose).

Plus, they've been out for at least a year, isn't that past new toy phase?

Yea, they've been around a while but the new toy problem only indicates that it would be a new toy for me.

Another of the big draws to me is that it would also be opne less thing to carry around and remember.

I got to play with one for a while in the SFO airport, a Treo 700p on the new broadband network (big cities only). It was really awesome, and as soon as I move to a big city with the EvDO network and a regular salary, I'll be buying one asap.

For me, just having constant access to GPS maps and directions would be worth $50/month, add a phone, organizer, and email/web, and it's a no-brainer. [Smile]

My husband really worked his features when he had his own business. It's just an expensive phone now, though it wasn't that expensive. He originally had a Kyocera like mine when they were dumping them for $100 apiece, but then he had a technical problem (which is probably why they were offloading them, but it turned out to be the fault of an aftermarket battery. My Kyocera is in good shape after 18 months.)

Anyway, when the Kyocera had an apparent glitch, they exchanged it for a Treo 650 at no extra charge. The Treo 650 kaputed just before his 1 year replacement guaranteed went out, so he has another one now. I don't know how long it will last. The first one had endured some remodeling related stress (such as remaining on the hip while he was cutting granite tiles with a wet diamond saw.) I think if you are anything resembling a somewhat careful person, they should last 18 months at least.

The only problem my kyocera has is when my daughter tried to play tetris using the stylus, she stabbed a bluish cloud in the middle of the screen. This resulted in her being banned from any non-emergency use of the phone, which has probably lengthened it's life.

I wouldn't trade for one because I prefer Graffiti over the thumboard, but to each his own.
