Brent Spiner does not intend to reprise his role in the upcoming film.

EDIT: Link fixed.

Give the poor man a break. He should have quit the role before the series ended.

I'd love a DS9 moive. I'd want Jadzia Dax to be in it instead of Ezri, though. I figure that a well placed subspace anomaly, resulting in an eddy in the space/time continuum would probably do the trick. Oh, or maybe she could just pilot the Rio Grande out of the wormhole, oblivious to the fact that she had been split at some earlier point, and had been in some kind of suspended energy state or something while the alternate Jadzia came through the wormhole and eventually died.

Darn, I was sort of looking forward to Data meeting Spock and Kirk when they were at the academy together.

I did read though that Leonard Nimoy's agents were contacted by paramount to see if he was at all interested. If the whole Kirk/Spock at the academy pans out, having it as a flash back would be better in my opinion. Maybe having Spock visiting Kirk's grave at the beginning of the movie(or even better, trying to bring him back), with him remembering how they first met.

Yes. It'll probably be something along the lines of "In the future where Janeway is dead, Tuvok and 7 of 9, travel to Deep Space 9 where Jadzia Dex has been reincarnated by Q in a bet with Picard to see who would win in a fight, the crew from Enterprise or the crew from The Original Series."

I for one am excited beyond words.

Um... Spock believes Kirk to have been vaporized in a red ribbony thingy. Picard brought him back, and then buried him. Which is what I love reminding fans of The Original Series, is that Picard buried Kirk.

I'm not huge on TOS, but I would assume somehow Spock found out about Picard bringing him back and digging his grave.

The Kirk and Spock in the Academy thing is a just a rumor, based on a screenplay Paramount decided to pass on.

The actual plot of the new Star Trek film, characters featured, etc. has not been revealed.

Never liked Kes, the little snotty thing. Seven of Nine was way cooler than Kes.

Remember that episode where Kes was all in a bunch because she killed a roomful of houseplants?

Seven of Nine was Borg, man! She killed, like, planets and stuff. And she'd strut afterwards, in her catsuit and 4-inch heels, all attitude and cool.

And didn't you all want to just smack Neelix when he cooed over her, "Sweeting..."

They might as well just called each other "Shmoopy" and been done already.

Regardless it's going to be a prequel. Have you not see the poster?

If it's a prequel - and judging by the version of the StarFleet insignia it's going to be a movie with the older series as a background - why would Data be in it?

Yes, I have.

Ah, you've been listening to T'Pol and the Vulcan Science Council on how "time travel is impossible" again, haven't you? [Wink]

Anyway, the teaser images uses and older StarFleet insignia, but that could mean anything. Until Abrams and Paramount reveal the actual synopsis and confirm/deny casting rumors, all we have is speculation.

Edit: Spelling error corrected.

Well, he did travel back in time to Old San Francisco, where his head was severed, then brought back to the future to get reattached to the body. So, his head, at least, is pretty old.

It is hard to figure on ages when you time travel as much as these guys do.

Rumored. As in, there is no official confirmation. Keep in mind IMDB listings are just what people report in, which may or may not be factual.

Abrams is on the record as saying the "prequel" rumors are not quite accurate.

Unfortunately both the eddy in space/time continuum and the doubled energy being suspended in subspace have both been done to replicate characters before. I think they should come up with new ST ways of reincarnation- like "The search for Spock" finding Data inside B-4.

Oh, BTW, the Rio Grande is the only real choice, because its the only runabout that doesn't get wantonly destroyed every month.

BTW again, didn't EVERYONE involved in ST swear up and down and sideways that Star Trek was finished? I believe there was even an article in Rolling stone called Requiem for The Enterprise or something? Patrick Stewart said that he was glad, that it was time for it to be over? Oh, I know it won't end as long as there is some money and a little creative energy in it... but really, the last few films were so hackneyed.

They ditched Kes because she was the weakest character in the series. The actress was only 19 when the show started after all, and the few episodes she starred in were boring! Gah, the tediousness of those episodes, saved only sporadically by the doctor.

While I want to see a DS9 movie as much as the next person - come on, Sisko's ending up in the wormhole was just asking for some sequelly goodness - I just don't think enough people know or care about that series to make a successful movie out of it. And 'successful' is what the franchise needs most right now if it is ever going to survive. If it's a movie with good acting, lots of explosions, and some humour (and maybe even a plot) people will actually go and see it.

I don't think I care what or who it's about at this point, as long as it's a Good Movie. For fans as loyal as Star Trek's have been, it would be nice to see them get what they deserve. [Smile]

I think that you have more confidence in Trek's unwillingness to recycle plot elements than I do.

When they first showed previews introducing Seven as member of the crew I quit watching the show in disgust, for exactly the reasons you say you dislike her. Wasn't exactly hard; Voyager pretty much sucked at that point, and struck me as a huge mess of wasted potential. At some point I was somewhere where it was on, and was surprised to find that Jerri Ryan was actually a very skilled actor. I think that she was brought on primarily for sex appeal, but her character ended up being one of the best things about the show, and she turned in excellent performance after excellent performance. In a lot of ways I think that she carried that show.
