Anyone tried it recently? They're offering free playing time and I just might give it a whirl.

It's consistently been rated one of the top MMORPGs of all time, but no one plays it.

Free time may make me give it a try as well.

I'll admit that I only played for a couple days with said free trial, so perhaps I'm missing out on a lot of the game...

My general first thoughts were that it seemed a somewhat intriguing concept, though I would have been more a fan of it in single-player. There was a pretty steep learning curve, a number of areas where I personally didn't like how fluid the game was [read ill-defined/explained].

Parts of it seemed needlesly complicated and/or differing from the RPG norm just for the sake of being different.

That being said, it definately had/has some possibilities, such as the manipulatability of skills and such, but in my opinion lacked much of the satisfying cut-and-dryness that I look for in RPGs. I kept wanting to be making wow-type decisions (i.e. +2% hit or +1 crit +3 stam) rather than being faced with a dozen different stats in non-numerical format with no clear "this is better than that" feel.

Again keep in mind that this review was based off relatively little play, so much of that may become more intuitive as you get used to the world, and the game definately seems to have at least some potential.

I am one of those weird people that, in general, is not a big fan of Blizzard. I enjoy their RTS games, but otherwise...not so much. A lot of their stuff is geared to be simple and easy to play which means that it's enjoyable very quickly, but there just isn't much of a challenge.

So, WoW is kind of fun for a couple days, but it's just so simple and bleh for me. Plus, the mechanics are a retread of everything that's gone before.

I really like EQ2, but it sucks me in to where I'm playing too much. I'm kind of looking for a happy middle ground.

What I meant to say above was that this point seems interesting to me, rather than a bad thing. [Smile]
