So give me your mouse disposal methods. We've gotten rid of 4 with traps and I thought we'd disposed of them only to find out tonight that they've taken up residence IN MY COUCH.

I have a chenille throw over the couch to protect it from the dogs. There was a small hole in it that seemed to get bigger really rapidly. Turns out that the mice thought chenille was a nice nest liner, and the corner of the couch under the cushion made a nice nest. There are droppings everywhere and it even smells rodenty in that corner.

HELP!!!

AJ

It has been proven that for a free beer...I will do just about anything...except chase a mouse. I can't fit into those little holes they hide in.

Incidentally I just baited a trap with peanut butter and put it right in front of the den on the now cushionless couch.

Oh yeah and I have dogs... which rules out poison. A cat may be a good investment though.

If you get the cat young enough, it also won't have as many problems with your dogs being dogs. [Smile]

Steve just called to tell me that the mice are scoring style points on us. Apparently there are mice inhabiting all THREE couches. (well one's a loveseat)

I'm picking up a bunch of plastic bins at the bargain store on the way home.

The exterminator is arriving Saturday, and we are supposed to have the place decluttered by then.

Latest phone update (I'm still at work) Mouse turds officially found in every room of the house (though I'm not sure if he was counting the bathrooms)

We cleaned out most of the garage tonight. Found some mouse droppings out there. I haven't really noticed any inside, but we've kept it pretty clean and have vaccuumed somewhat regularly, so we might have just missed it.

I take it since the exterminator has been called, no hotel room for AJ?

Agrees, until said mice pee and poop all over the house including all cupboards making constant dishwashing a must, eating and/or otherwise ruining 30 bucks worth of food, making the house STINK, and otherwise taking over one's entire life. In this case, mice are most certainly NOT CUTE AT ALL and must be OBLITERATED in any way possible!!! Absolute WAR must be declared before it's too late. I let mice live for a few weeks thinking they were cute, too. I'm still trying to kill the SOBs.

As for the methods I'd suggest, trap 'em. It's the cheapest method. Place the traps alongside the walls, and I'd warn you, peanut butter doesn't always work. The mice can lick it off the trap without springing it. I ended up using bits of hot dogs, b/c that was in my fridge. Good luck and godspeed, soldier!

I noticed a mouse in our garage last night. We caught it in one of those humane traps tonight and let it go in a field nearby. It was a tiny cute field mouse, I'm glad we didn't kill it.

The mice in my uncles house really like chocolate. They ate almost all of my cocoa mix, and my uncles been catching mice like crazy since he started baiting the traps with melted chocolate.

I was thinking an Affenpinscher, a cat or a ferret.

Steve's saying an exterminator with a satisfaction guarantee is the better route.

Yeah, I like them and Brussels Griffons as far as small terrierish breeds go. Not many others.

So, we are now re-washing all clean clothes as the mice were frolicking on the couch where those resided.

I've bought a bunch of storage bins, and we'll work more on decluttering tonight. I'm not looking forward to this but I guess it needed to be done anyway.

"...mice were frolicking ..."

this reminds me of my ex-wife's insistence on killing a spider that lived up in the corner in our bedroom. She feared that it would come "dance on her forehead" at night while she slept.

The decluttering is in full swing for the exterminator's arrival tomorrow. I've thrown out 3 garbage bags of old linens and clothing that isn't fit for donation. Also have a bag full of recyclables.

I've got a bunch of my dog paraphenalia that was on shelves in random open containers and cardboard boxes, now in closed bins, although there's still a bunch of relatively important papers to go through that have mouse poo sprinkled throughout. I found out they like regular dog food but won't touch the diet dog food. I had one of those free sample bags near all the aforementioned papers, and that was why there was mouse poo everywhere onthe papers, because they'd eaten every peice of food in the bag, and all that were left were plastic shreds and loads of stinky mouse turds.

2/3 of contaminated laundry has been re-washed, and Steve has vowed to put his clothing away which is one positive outcome to this whole mess. Neither of us are great housekeepers, although it tends to be clutter not dirt that is the problem.

We might actually get some pictures hung on the walls properly because that would contribute to the decluttering.

*sigh*
