An autobiographical thread...

I'm 16 and I live in Baltimore, MD. I have one cat, Bibi whom I love very very much since he's the only pet I've ever had. [Smile] (I got him in 7th grade).

My parents divorced when I was 9, and my dad lives on my family's farm (where I grew up) and my mom lives in the city. I'm extremely lucky, because my mom works at a (very expensive) private school in the city (the Park school) and I get in free. [Smile] I've gone there all my life, as have most of my friends.

I've ice skated since I was little but only recently started taking actual lessons (before my dad just taught me stuff) and I'm almost up to freestyle. It's pretty much my life. [Smile]
I also like writing, painting, reading, and traveling.

My family is the most important thing in the world to me (my dad's side). We have a farm that my grandma bought in the 40's and my dad and all his siblings grew up there (as well as me). I have an older sister and brother, both in their 30's, from my dad's first marriage. My sister has 2 kids and my brother has 2 kids. My grandma, my 2 uncles, my dad and his wife, and my sister's family all live on our farm.
My family is, basically, AMAZING. [Big Grin]

I'm really interested in Spanish, I've been studying it since 6th grade and I love speaking it. I went on my school's Mexico trip last year, to Cuernavaca, I got to stay with a host family for two weeks. It was AWESOME and I really hope I can get a chance to spend a year abroad in Mexico or some similar country in college.
I considered trying to do a year abroad in high school (my best friend is in Argentina now...for the whole year [Frown] ) but I decided that I have little enough time with my high school friends as it is.

I don't date very much, but there IS a guy who I'd love to ask out, even though one of my best friends has a huge crush on him and ....well thats a long story...lol.

I use smileys alot. As you can tell.

[Hat]

Yay! Story time!

*Sits and reads*

Cool! Nice to know you. I didn't care for Spanish too much as a kid. I studied German. However, it's been 9 years since I have spoken it. So I just speak bad English. [Smile]

I really wanted to travel abroad when I was in high school too. If you've been thinking about a gap year between college & high school, or are wondering what to do with the summer before you start college, you might consider working as an Au-Pair in Spain. Basically, you're a nanny/household helper for 20-30 hours a week, but you're treated as part of the family. Some families just want an English tutor for their teenage kids, too, which is an even better gig. You can typically go for anywhere from 3 months to a year.

And Tara: I know someone who went to The Park School last year! I'm 18 and a freshman at NYU. Two of the girls I live with are from Baltimore and they're insane. Well, welcome to Hatrack... sort of. [Roll Eyes]

I took a gap year between high school and college too. I did a one year study program in Israel. It was an incredible experience. And it REALLY doesn't matter that you're coming to college a year later! [Smile]

Would that be the class of 2006? I don't know any Emma's in that grade but there is a Liz. (My school is really small).

It's kind of funny that you knew Park and someone else knew Cuauhnahuac. Small world.

No, we don't have any animals or anything. Just 55 arces of land, and a couple of fields that are mowed once a year by the family down the street. [Razz]

I am so jealous that you can ice skate I just went for the first time a couple weeks ago and I totally sucked. It hurt my ankles a lot too lol. Anyways, welcome!
