"Witty best-selling author and columnist Molly Ivins, a Texas liberal who died after a long battle with breast cancer, left legions of admirers, even among the politicians she regularly skewered.

"President Bush, referred to as 'Shrub' in Ivins' writings, said in a statement issued after her death Wednesday evening that Ivins was a Texas original who was loved by her readers and many friends."

Damn, damn, damn.

Her paper The Texas Observer has put up tons of quotes, photos, and rememberences. They do seem to be a bit overwhelmed this morning, though.

I'm so sad about this. I valued her good sense and humor so much; and I was looking forward to what she would have to say about the 2008 Presidential campaigns.

Cancer sucks.

Fyfe, there's this from a year ago. She specified that she wasn't going to be supporting H Clinton.

I will always, always be thankful to her for showing (and stating, though I can't find the relevant quote) that you can continue to wade through the mess of politics and keep your good humor.

I heard the news yesterday. I am very upset. I loved reading her columns and books.

I see from the links Chris posted that she was a Smith College graduate. Home of feisty women the world over. [Smile]

I heard about this yesterday. She was such a strong woman. I loved her style of writing, her wit, and her knowledge.

I also enjoyed reading the Letters to the Editor in the Chicago Tribune from legions of Republicans and Neo-cons who were dissatisfied with her appearance on the Commentary page. I always figured, if you don't want to read something in the newspaper, no one's forcing you to.

At any rate, she will be sorely missed.

She was definitely a force to be reckoned with, and I read her columns published in the Florida Today whenever I saw them. I'm sorry she's dead.

A loss to the collective intelligence of the nation. What a shame.
