Here's how it goes: From one Wikipedia article, using the links supplied in the main body* of that article, hop to a different article, preferably one as unrelated to the first article as possible. Please quote the sentence that your link appears in. Hopefully, we see how long it can go, how varied it can get, and learn something along the way!
*That means no external links, pictures, or references.
For example in the first sentence on the article on Beef there's a link to an article on Bovinae.
I thought I'd start it off with the article on OSC, in honor of our host.

Hmm...Actually, I like the idea of a goal, Xavier. What say we try to hit...oh..."Dinosaur" exactly on the tenth hop. Whoever gets that one gets to choose the next goal. Sound good?
So, OSC would be #1 and Greensboro #2

#3: During the 19th century, with its large concentration of anti-slavery Quakers near Guilford College (now part of Greensboro), the town was a stop on the Underground Railroad.Posts: 246 | Registered: Jul 2006

I was going to post that exact link. But I decided to let someone else have a turn . . . get out of my head!!!

If we're trying to get to Dinosaur, couldn't #5 be History? Sentence: Oral history is considered by some historians to be an unreliable source for the study of history.
EDIT: to contain sentence as stated by Juxtapose

quote:If you want a real challenge, go from Caesar to OSC.
Wasn't easy.
Julius Caesar --> Masters of Rome --> Novel --> Literary genre --> Science Fiction --> Hugo Award --> Hugo Award for Best Novel --> Orson Scott Card
Can anyone do better?
Edit: I was able to get from Caesar to Mormonism pretty quickly, but went down several false leads trying to get to some sort of list of notable Mormons. I didn't find any.
Edit2: I think I will throw out another challenge, link Photophosphorylation to Ace Ventura. I'll try and resist the temptation to try and find my own link if someone gives me a different challenge
Oh and if you are annoyed that I am derailing your thread, I would gladly make a different one for these sorts of purposes.

Thought I could save a step, but I can only match Xavier's 8.
Julius Caesar --> Pope Gregory XIII --> Protestantism --> Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints --> BYU --> List of Brigham Young University people --> Orson Scott Card

Actually, I missed a link on the "novel" page which links directly to the "science fiction" page, so we can remove the "literary genre" step.

Photophosphorylation --> Gibbs Free Energy --> Josiah Willard Gibbs --> United States Postal Service --> California --> Los Angeles --> Warner Bros. --> Ace Ventura

Yikes! That is one crazy chain Baron. If I'd known it would be that cruel, I never would have assigned it .
I might sheepishly point out that the challenge was to connect Photophosphorylation, not simply Phosphorylation. I'll just go ahead and assume that you can get from the former to the latter in a couple of steps or less (though surprisingly it does not appear to be a direct link).

I'm sure someone has posted a better one by now, but:

I'm now going for as interesting as possible instead of as short as possible, as I'm noticing myself following the same path repeatedly, which is no fun.
Baileys Irish Cream --> Urban Legend --> MythBusters --> Aliens --> Unidentified Flying Objects --> UFOs in fiction --> The War of the Worlds (1953 film) --> H.G. Wells
Weird absence of cross links in places I would have expected them.

Nicely done. I've been working at that one like crazy, and haven't come up with a sufficiently elegant solution.
One thing, though. I thought we were only to use links in the main body of the article, and the "see also" section (where "gyration" was located) was off limits.
"...rotation around a fixed axis-->rotation-->gyroscope..." would solve that problem with no extra steps, though, so no harm done.
