How are you? You mentioned pneumonia on the fast food thread.

Have you been seen by a doctor? Antibiotics? There are resources here.

I'm on 875mg amoxicillin bid since Sunday night, but I'm steadily feeling worse. I've graduated to not being able to draw half a breath because my chest is so tight, coughing up phlegm, watery eyes...and this is on top of the extremely sore throat and really bad headache from before. It's not pretty.

I'm also taking NyQuil/dayquil to try to mitigate some of these symptoms, and running my warm steamer with vaporizer at night, but it still hurts too much to lay down, so I'm sleeping in my computer chair. It's not comfortable, so I'm very sore and tired from not sleeping well.

I'm calling the doc again in the morning, if I don't start feeling better by then. I can't afford to go see her, but at this point, I can't afford not to, KWIM?

So yeah, I mentioned pneumonia, but it was (hopefully) in jest. [Smile] Thanks for thinking of me.

Well, that's a solid dose of Amoxil for an adult. Strep throat shouldn't be resistant anyway.

Do you have a history of asthma or wheezing in you or your family? Any chance you have or could pick up some Mucinex? (and is your profile email address up to date?)

I am certainly no doctor, but I know both times I had pneumonia, amoxicillan wouldn't work for me. It's worked for other things, but for the pneumonia, I ended up on something called zithromax.

Boon, there are some clinics in your area, if you can't afford the doctor. Want me to find them for you?

(And if you can't afford your medicine, please e-mail me.)

I appreciate it, but it won't be necessary. My doctor will let me pay $5 every two weeks if I need to; I've always paid up front in her office at each visit, but she's told me many times that I can take as long as I need to pay her.

I did find a free Rx discount card called Together Rx Access. My $24.99 amoxicillin cost $17.59 with it. Not a huge savings, but every dollar helps, right?

Actually, this is the sort of thing we have a credit card for. If I need expensive drugs or tests or whatever, we'll use the credit card. I hate to do that, but we just had to use our $4500 emergency fund to replace the engine and do some other work on my van. [Frown]

Oh, and I'm up at 4am because I woke the entire household up with my coughing. Nice, huh?

I find ice cream solves a wide swath of maladies.

Perhaps Drs. Ben and Jerry should take a swing at it. [Smile]

Thanks, guys.

In other news, it looks like Dan's coming down with what I've got, Jen's completely fine (but still on antibiotics), Boo has a gooey green discharge from his nasal orifice, my dear, darling husband is grouchy 'cause I've kept him up most of the night with my coughing, and I've had...maybe an hour's sleep tonight. [Frown]

Doc's office opens in ten minutes. Think I'll be her first phone call of the day?

And...the only good news about that is that I'm scheduled to take the boys in at 11:15 and the doc will pull my file and check me over as well, at no cost. [Smile] (The kids have insurance, I don't. I love having a doctor who cares.)

Well, it's not strep.

It's also not the flu.

She's not sure what it is, except that it's resistant to amoxicillin.

My throat is "raw," my ears are "severely infected, especially that right one," and my chest is congested and tight, with a "rattle." Also, I have allergies (it's spring-like here).

She's put me on cipro, rhinocort (samples, no cost), albuterol w/nebulizer (loaned and samples, no cost), and lortab syrup for the cough. If I'm not markedly improved by Saturday morning, I am to have her paged at home and she'll meet me Saturday afternoon at the clinic she works at on Wednesday afternoons.

Boo and Dan are also to get amoxicillin, and Dan also needs a few sessions with the albuterol. He also has pretty severe seasonal allergies, so she's put him on singulair for the season.

Oh yeah, she also wrote a script for Hubby for cipro and wrote him a note for work, in case he doesn't feel well enough to go to work this weekend. Actually, she said he shouldn't go in, but she understands if he has to. Right now, he's mostly okay, but if his sore throat/cough gets any worse, he's not gonna be able to do his job...and that's not even considering the danger of passing this on to his coworkers.

Hopefully, this'll fix us up.

The good news: the roast I put in the crock pot at 4am because I couldn't sleep...yeah, it was a yummy lunch, and not too hard to chew, so it didn't hurt my ears, and had no sharp anythings, so didn't hurt my throat. [Smile]

Okay, so I'm back for (hopefully) the last time before a decent night's sleep (properly doped up on lortab) to sing the praises of my new FREE perscription card.

The cipro doc put hubby and I on is $77.39 for each of us, and the lortab is $20.99. The card knocked the prices down to $15.35 and $5.25, respectively. I saved 77%! I didn't even have to use the credit card!!! Yay!!!

Again, it's Together Rx Access, and it's FREE for those of us who live in the US, meet income requirements, and have no other perscription insurance.

I went to Mexico and bought drugs.

Seriously.

All legal to have in the US, actually, and it was a real eye opener to me to see the difference between the prices here and the prices there. And yes, I went to a reputable place, and the containers were sealed.

I'm okay, but for the lingering, chunk-spewing cough. The kids are MUCH improved. Hubby, on the other hand, is still very congested. [Frown]

And, no present as of yesterday. I'll check the mail again tomorrow when I take the kids swimming. [Smile]
