Ok, so first of all we can live together after all because I finally bought some ketchup. I love ketchup, but my mom detests it. I kept forgetting to buy some so I never had any when I needed it.

But this time I decided I wanted to try out a barbecue recipe I had and it turned out really good. And the plus side is that it uses about a cup of that sweet scarlet nectar of the gods.

So anyway, here goes. I want you to try this out when you can and tell me if you liked it too...or not?

I just hope you're not vegetarian/vegan...
quote:
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Salt
  • 1 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Ground Mustard
  • 2 lbs. meat (beef, pork chops, boneless or cut-up chicken)

Procedure: Prepare charcoal/electric grill or preheat broiler. Combine ketchup, honey, vinegar, Worcestershire Sauce, garlic salt, onion powder and dry mustard; mix well. Place meat or chicken on hot grill 4 to 6 inches from heat. Quickly brown on all sides, cook to desired doneness, brushing with sauce towards the end of cooking. Beef: Cook about 5 minutes per side for rare, 6 for medium and 7 for well-done. Pork: Cook about 10 to 15 minutes per side or until well done. Chicken: Cook a total of about 15 minutes for boneless and 30 minutes for cut-up chicken, turning often. Makes 4 servings.

If you do try it out, would you care to give me your input? Is there a way to make the recipe better?

Everyone is free to try this too, of course!

No hope that kq is vegan or vegetarian. She talks about meat too much for that, so you're safe there. [Smile]

Your recipe looks good, by the way. I can't think of anything off the top of my head to improve it, but it may not need improving, and you say yourself that it turned out really good. [Smile] Was there anything about it that you were dissatisfied with?

Add a little bit of sweet chili sauce. Deeeeeelicious. It'll both sweeten and kick it up a notch.

Oh, well, if you want to kick it up a notch...

I'd add a couple of tablespoons of chilli powder. Not that dark brown stuff that's really a combination of other spices, but the bright red stuff that's hot enough to knock socks off. Of. Something. Um, probably cayenne is what it's called there.

Hmmm, that looks intriguing. I don't usually go for barbeque at all, hate it! But that doesn't involve any liquid smoke, so that's one obstacle removed... I'm sensitive to honey so I might re-think that personally and use brown sugar in its place but that's no judgement on you. [Smile] In fact, it looks a lot like what I put in Sloppy Joes (just add a bit of tomato sauce or paste in there.) Yummy, I would indeed add a bit of chili powder (but I use the dark kind, although the kind I buy does have cayenne in it.)

This is the most delicious sauce ever to come in a bottle. It's what we use at work. It's great for dipping Calamari or to toss buffalo wings in instead of buff sauce.

It's mild, so the kick isn't THAT bad (though you can certainly taste it), but it's very sweet too. Tasty.

Eek! Apologies! The SECOND most delicious sauce to come to a bottle.

You can make me smitten? Who are you, Aphrodite? I think smote is right.

I can probably find that sauce in any of the Asian super markets around here. God, I love those places. I'll try it out and let you know how good it turns out to be. [Smile]

I dunno. In any case, I shall smite, you will be whatever the objective form of that is. But you have corrected yourself so you need not be [whatevered].

Ahem. Catsup isn't a sauce, it is a main dish.

My wife is using ketchup to remove tarnish on the bottom of a copper pot as we speak.

No joke. [Smile]

No. Catsup is an abomination before mine eyes.

Ketchup may be eaten at any meal.

Sorry to say this Kwea, but I believe your sucking up efforts just got...'pwned'.
