I have been instructed to recreate a WordPerfect template in Word. I can and have done everything for the Word template EXCEPT: When you create a new document from the WordPerfect template, it first displays a prompt asking for certain information. You fill in the text boxes on the prompt, and then the new document opens with the filled-in information in the appropriate spots.
I'm sure it uses macros and fields to do this, but I can't figure out how. Anyone want to e-mail me? *hopeful* If you send it through the board, I'll e-mail back right away with the WordPerfect template so you can see what needs to be recreated and I'll send the Word template I have so far.
If no WordPerfect, I'll send a screen shot of both the prompt and then the document from the template.
I've created macros before - I know the general idea. I'm really sad I can't figure this out.

You want to use named form fields in Word, which you can reference through VBscript (i.e. a macro). You'll then write a macro that runs "on open" to prompt for data to put into each of the named fields.
You can also accomplish a somewhat simpler version of this by using the FILLIN Word field. From what you've described, FILLIN (or ASK, which is another field that does roughly the same thing, depending on your version) will meet all of your needs.
(After initially recommending VB, because that's what I wind up using, I realized that you could probably get by with just a FILLIN or ASK field. You'll want to save the document as a template in either case.)

Okay, I've created all of the Fill-in fields.
And...yay! It works! It works!
Now, one more question. Is there any way to get all of the fill-in prompts to appear on one pop-up screen?

To my knowledge, no -- not without using VBA or some other tool for form entry. I've seen some clever simulacra of this functionality in Excel, though. And you can do a similar thing by using Sections in Word and listing form fields in the first Section that are referenced in the second Section (which has your actual destination document).
Of course, if the users of this document really ARE just filling out forms, you might want to look into InfoPath or Access instead of Word.

They aren't. It is the template for a memo, and the idea is to get a prompt before the new cocuement opens for the five areas for the top of the memo.
I wouldn't do it that way - I'd put in the fields and they can click on the fields and replace with the text - but that's not how it was requested. If there is no way for me to put it on one form, then...I think I'll create the multiple requests template, the straight template where they would click and replace, and then say for the third kind they need to get one of the programmers to help.
