New Screenshots

I somewhat agree with the editors of the site--the screens seem pretty cluttered, and the models are adopting a slightly cartoonish feel.

But it's the Zerg, so we have at least some proof that they're working on it!

Well also remember battles setup so that Blizzard can take some screen shots and post them are going to be in significant ways different then how the actual game pans out usually. Most screenshots seem to need the maximum amount of content that can fit in a frame so that the most number of potential customers are excited.

I agree that it looks cartoony, but it's hard to see if it's cluttered since I can't see what it'd look like on my screen.

Other than a graphics update, and obvious, a storyline update, it'd be nice if they did a better job of updating the units and buildings. Seems kind of lazy to keep them, even the shapes, all the same.

Doesn't look mind-boggling. I haven't played computer games for years, and this doesn't seem like a significant upgrade in terms of graphics.

I doubt it is meant to. Blizzard has for a very long time adapted a strategy of providing for high end machines to boost the graphics significantly but keeping the absolute minimum requiremens for their games VERY low. That way the maximum number of people could potentially play it at their computer.

I couldn't care less about updated graphics in a SC game. I'm excited about the interesting gameplay changes they showcased in the trailer however many months ago.

Agreed. Wall jumping and map-wide teleportation are going to ROCK. I can't even imagine what sort of gameplay additions the Zerg are going to get.

And the above posts are also correct about the graphics; I mean, look at Warcraft III's minimum requirements--you could play it on an outdated '98! Blizzard games are often playable on any machine made within three to five years of the release.

The zerg look like pudgy little stuffed animals... what happened to the vicious looking Hydralisks? the humans look like they have a giant "mighty morphin' power ranger" robot thing in the second screen shot. It will probably be cool, but the zerg seem disappointing so far.

Pudgy? Perhaps the Overlord, but he's always been a little on the fat side. Banelings are meant to be round rolling balls of destruction, from what I can tell.

The general consensus for the current zergling model seems to be "cricket", according to various forums I've looked at. I personally think that Blizzard's concept art team is taking the adjective "insectoid" a bit too far.

As for complaints regarding the overusage of color and lack of gritty realism, Karune once again has an answer:

I think you can expect changes. How much and how huge those changes are will be a matter of opinion.

The team has heard some feedback from the community that is concerned that the look of SC2 is too "colorful" and that more "realistic" color choices would be more in keeping with the original StarCraft. We saw a lot of these types of posts early on after we made the announcement.

I just spoke to Sam Didier (our Art Director) about this issue and he tells me that in order to make the units read well we have added A LOT of team color which really blows the units out and makes them look super-colored especially with the brighter colors (red, blue). The art team plans to take one or more passes over all the units in the game to try to balance out team color so it still works for game play but looks less bright and more in keeping with the original StarCraft. Changes to the over-all look to the game are always an option and the team is always tuning and trying to balance out the look of the game.

So when they say banelings are like infested Terran, are they infested Terran? or are they some pudgy zerg guys.

Banelings are a mutation of Zerglings, just as Lurkers were of Hydralisks or Guardians of Mutalisks.

Grab a few Zerglings, mutate them, and you've got some suicide bombers ready to go!
