Welcome JonatnBusr [Wave]

How did you learn about Hatrack? I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do!

Let me tell you that that was one of the most thoughtful introductory posts I have seen. (In fact, quite a lot of it went straight over my head, because it may as well have been in a foreign language to me! ) But still, even though I didn't get a lot of the finer points, I still think I have a sense of who you are from your post, and I think you're a great addition! [Big Grin] I kinda think Papa ought to archive especially good introductory posts, like yours, in a separate forum, kind of like Hatrack's landmark post forum, only written when people first join us instead of after they've been here for a while--so much less exclusive that way!

(By the way, don't let anything FToaS says throw you. He's the mean one--but he's a big old softie inside!)

[Big Grin]

Is there an anti spam-posting law, or do we only have anti email-spam laws so far?

This may be why they are upgrading the forums. [Wink]

Great delivery JT. It's like conversing with a bot. [Wink]

Ok, I am going to give you all a cautionary warning.

When messages like these start appearing, they cannot be ignored. They mean that the forum has appeared on a propagating list that are traded anytime there is any positive linking from the site.

Since it is impossible to assume that absolutely nobody will ever click a link from those spammers (someone does sometime, even on the smallest forums) you have to find out how they are getting past the registration system and it usually has to be altered. Most of the time, if not always, these few messages turn into many.

Or we could just figure out what person is clicking on the link and launch a pre-emptive strike to eliminate them.

It never works. One always gets through, at least.

But anyway, I don't want to see hatrack turning into another place that gets five to ten of these a day.

I'll admit to a high level of being impressed with the spammers that they've developed to this level. I mean, automating bots to sign up for websites and then spam them with no oversight? Pretty slick AI, if you ask me.

Do we have that weird picture thingy that's used elsewhere to control spam-new members?
