So should I wander around the smelly city of Augusta, popping in and out of Targets, GameStops, WalMarts, K-Marts, EB Games', and Sears', or should I just buy one online for $400 and have done with it? Help!

Depends on whether you are looking for the best deal (price) or if you just want to get it over with

I went the retail hoping route, it was hell for that week or so, but I've had mine for months and it has easily produced more hours of fun then the time I spent waiting in lines.

Of course that was back in late November and early December. Things seem alot easier, I casually went into an EB Games and purchased an Xbox 360 and asked about Wiis so that I could inform my friend if they had any, they said they had a used one and they had a brand new one just 5 miles south at another store location, they were even willing to call and hold it for me.

It would have been very easy to get one that day and that was more then a month ago.

I am pretty sure EB Games and Game Stops ALWAYS get a handful of Wiis every friday/saturday to sell over the weekend.

I would NOT pay $400 for a Wii as you could use that additional cash to buy controllers, a charger, and most importantly games.

I'd rather you hope that supply goes up rather than hoping demand goes down.

It seems to vary around here. One day I will be in and a store has 5, the next time I'm there that store is out but the store down the street has 7. (We have about a bajillion Targets around here...) Not that I'm looking for Wiis, but I check it out while I'm there.

I've not seen a single Wii in stock anywhere around here since they came out. My mom picked one up for me in San Diego a couple weeks after launch, so I haven't been looking for one, but I also check when I'm near the game section.

I'd wait. The big games aren't out for it yet, so you really are not missing a lot by waiting.

I got mine at Toys-R-Us, the local store in my area generally has them for a few days after each shipment (unlike best buy that never seems to have one). I have been really disappointed with the online aspect of the wii. There are so many games that could have benefited from online play (even wii sports and wii play). They really should have let you play mario party online.

I don't know if that's entirely out of the question, Lupus. Just as PS3 came out with Home after launch when they needed a boost in sales, it could be that Nintendo is waiting for a dip in demand before unveiling an online multiplayer platform for its games.

As it is now, the Wii is still outpacing the 360 and PS3 in each of the last several months, even with only a handful of highly rated titles. I don't think it would be unthinkable that they'd launch an online-play feature once sales either level off or dip slightly.

Not saying that *will* happen, but that it still could.

Smash Bros: Brawl which is sleighted to come out this year has already been confirmed as an online title. That excites me more then just about any other game that could have such a function. I am sure online platforming is on the way. But I can't really think of any game out right now besides Mario Party that would take advantage of such functionality. Better to develop it that much longer until a title that absolutely demands it comes out.

I was a SB: Melee fanatic and after beating the socks off everyone I could ever come across I wondered how well I would do in a national/international tournament, I imagine Smash Bros: Brawl will be the test I need.

You may want to check here. Is anyone finding that the Gamecube has some really excellent games that you can pick up for like $10-$20 on Ebay?

Super Smash Brothers: Melee - of course
Mario Power Tennis
F-Zezo GX
Megaman Anniversary compilation
Midway Arcade Treasures 1 & 2

I'm amazed by how much fun these all are.

Yeah, airman, what system do you have already? Are you sure you've played out every game for it? If I wanted a Wii, I wouldn't get one until I could find it at retail price or until it looked like some of the games I wanted were becoming unavailable.

(I hate how quickly games seem to become rare. It seems like I have to buy them as soon as they come out to make sure I get them. Thus I have a number of games I've barely touched but that I know I'll want to play someday.)

Rather than wandering around town, can you call the stores in question to see if any has a Wii in stock and can hold it for you to pick up?

(Though this is two days after TODAY, so it's probably too late now...)

My girlfriend tried doing that and got nowhere. In fact, none of the places she called would confirm when any more were coming in, or tell her how many were expected. One guy finally told her that she would be better off going to the stores in person.

Ultimately my brother-in-law (who lives in Maryland - we're in NJ) found one and mailed it up to her.

It took her almost two months to find one.

Walmart has a Wii Bundle at their online store for about $550. You're stuck with getting extra accessories and 4 or more games, but if you're willing to pick up a fully-loaded system, it seems like a good deal.
