My dad's crazy musician friend Edson gets inventive.

What makes it extra cool to me is that's my dad's truck. Mom gave it to Edson when dad died. [Smile]

Oh, I get it. I'd totally forgotten about the thread title by the time I was reading the link. Or the article title displaced it.

I saw people do this many times growing up in Georgia. I saw it just recently on a drive out to the beach for my sister's wedding.

It's cool that's your dad's truck!

Found myself wondering how many tons of water the bed of a pickup would hold. It's gotta be enough to invert the springs.

Based on the dimension of the truck given at this site, the bed would hold 1.9 cubic meters of water (~ 2 tons) if filled to the brim. From the picture it doesn't look like he's got more the 6 inches of water which would weigh about half a ton.

The redneck swimming pool! Always a classic. Now that I have a truck I'll have to try it out.

We built a boat when we were kids, and launched it on the creek. It was a spectacular failure, overturning on its maiden voyage, and spilling all 10 or so of us neighborhood kids out into the shallow water. That's how I learned the lesson about the center of gravity needing always to remain below the center of buoyancy in shipbuilding. [Smile]

Anyway, after failing so notoriously as a boat, we gave our Lusitania a second life as a swimming pool in summer. Sure it leaked between the caulked planks, but the hose was enough to keep it full. In that era before wading pools were widely available, and when our chance to swim in a real pool was rare, we had a wonderful time with it. It's extra special if you made it yourself. [Smile]
