Last night, Scott Adams (Dilbert cartoonist, author) appeared in Second Life to promote his newest book, "Stick to Drawing, Monkey Boy," a collection of his blog entries over the last year.
(If you haven't read his blog you should. What I manage to sometimes do once a week, he does nearly every day. It's annoying. Warning - language and topics not always kid-friendly.)
He showed up to a crowd (by SL standards) and was hilarious answering questions about his book, Dilbert, and life in general for a half hour. Then, as advertised, he stood still and allowed audience members to beat and attack him with preprogrammed assaults. The "groin kick" was especially popular. He reasoned that his readers deserved to take a crack at him.
A great time, funny enough for me to miss "House" and almost not mind it. I posted pics here.

A typical "griefer" attack -- griefers being game players whose time is spent upsetting, obstructing, and/or ruining a game for the other players -- is to hit someone with a cage or field or something that immediately jumps up a few thousand feet. Annoying if not crippling, but do it too much and you'll get bounced from the game.
In this case Adams was literally asking for it, but no one was prepared.

That does sound like it was fun, I wish I had seen it.
I used to read his blog daily,(back when it was funny) but when it seamed like all he wanted to talk about was the non-existence of free will I decided to stop. I don't have any particular opinon on the subject, it just got to be really boring, same old, same old. I hope that he has moved on to more interesting topics, but I would be hard pressed to spend the time finding out for myself.

I don't see the draw of second life, but then again, I am not into gaming. I did like the virtual Dwight Schrute on The Office last week.

Someone captured video! Even in a virtual world, I seem to be doing the same thing I do when I meet a celebrity: talk to them briefly, then hang around to listen to what they say to everyone else (and end up in more photos than I really deserve to). Also, my kick is there on glorious color - I'm the bearded one with glasses in black shirt and jeans.
