I wonder if they considered politics. MySpace is Fox-owned, right? Many people avoid Fox as much as they can. That could have something to do with it.

I don't use MySpace because of the ColdFusion based code that is so bad, the horrible music that starts up automatically when you load up somebody's myspace profile, and all that ridiculous Pimp My Profile bling. I also never wanted to pick "Top Friends".
Although I don't really fit into the categories they mention: I'm poor as heck, but I do go to college. I have noticed this split among people I know, occurring mostly along these lines. The article's characterization of Facebook users as "goody-two-shoes, jocks, athletes or other 'good' kids" isn't accurate though.

I have both, though I use Myspace far more. The majority of the friends have a Myspace, and just recently many of them also created a Facebook account for reasons unknown to me. The reason I have both is so that I can keep in touch with friends/family that don't have one or the other.
Telp: There isn't much that you can do with facebook that you can't with myspace. All the pages have identical appearances, and there isn't nearly as much music (which is one reason I love myspace). There are tons of user created software programs you can add, like fluffy friends that allows you to take care of a pet, and the pirates program. The all seem extremely juvenile, to me at least.

Yeah, one of myspace's biggest sins is that music thing. In fact, any website or pop up add that produces sound of any kind without my implicit permission is evil.

I have both, but I use facebook more. I think it is better organized...and like others here I hate the music on myspace.

You hate the music? Or you hate the music that comes on when you link to a music site? If the former, I would think it might be easier to say you hate music.

Myspace is the only website that manages to crash Firefox on a daily basis, for me.
I'm pretty "white collar", and prefer Facebook. For a long time I did so mainly because not everyone could join (i.e., "elite").

I had a myspace once and I kept getting creepy friend requests. Maybe that's because I was so dumb that I didn't know how to make it private, though. But I deleted it after about the 3rd day.

Interesting, I think that the linked article characterizes those kids using Facebook as "affluent" and "educated" and then later says it is the place kids who are "headed for the Ivy League" (I think that's the quote; if not, it is very close) flock to.
So, does that mean that because I didn't attend an Ivy League school, I'm not really educated?
Pfft. Going to an Ivy League school rather than to any other college or university, at bottom, as far as I've ever seen, is to education what buying designer jeans rather than Levis is to purchasing trousers. You're paying a whole lot of extra money for a label, but it doesn't necessarily mean a better quality product.
Oh, and I also thought the implication that "blue collar" equals "not educated" was pretty rich.
Just my two cents' worth.

Not really. I volunteered to work at a homeless shelter in the computer lab, to help folks with their resumes and job applications and such (and to monitor to ensure no surfing of porn sites and such). I found myself spending most of my time looking at their MySpace pages... homeless young adults are very mobile and frequently don't have phones, so MySpace gave them a way to communicate with the friends they had left behind. Nowdays virtually everyone has access to a computer at least intermittently.
Personally I much prefer Facebook, and was miffed when they opened it up to non-college folks, for very elitist reasons. I didn't want my homeless kids to be able to search for my page, and I didn't want my subordinates at work to be able to see it either. Pics of me dressed up as a Slutty Vampire for halloween are appropriate fair for old friends from college, but not for all. (Simple solution obviously was to take all that crap down, which I've done, but still... you can't pander to all markets)

You can change your MySpace settings so that music doesn't play automatically, and also so that you don't get friend requests from people that don't know your last name, etc.
I don't have a Facebook account because I was already out of college when it expanded, and I don't want another purely networking site. I enjoy that MySpace has free music space. I wish MySpace had a grafitti wall like Facebook.

I don't hate music that I choose to play (I actually enjoy music in general)...I just don't like music on a website to come on automatically. I also get annoyed when I am on other websites and they have music that comes on.
Sure you can turn it off, but it still bugs me. I guess it is just a pet peeve of mine.

No no. It's like buying jeans from a really old company that used to make good jeans but now turns out the same crap as everyone else but turns up their noses at people who wear anyone else's jeans.
Really, I went to an Ivy (Brown) and as near as I can tell you don't necessarily pay more and you don't necessarily get more out of it, but some people seem to think you got more out of it. There are definitely other schools which cost as much or more, and you can definitely get at least as good an education at other schools. It's all about which program you pick, anyway.
