There are so many reasons why the idea of an Iron Man movie makes me go "meh".
I'm a DC person; not a Marvel person. And sure, the Spiderman movies are a billion times better than anything DC has done in the movies, but still.
Even when it comes to Marvel, Iron Man has always bored me to tears. Just... nothing about him has ever interested me. Ever.
I didn't read Civil War, but I did read part of it, and I also read the hilarious remix, and from what I gather, Tony Stark is, next to Hank Pym, the most irredeemable, foul, black-souled, villain that Marvel has ever tried to pass off as a hero.
Countering all of that, however, is this. And all I can say is, "Holy God. I cannot wait for this."

So how the heck will they redeem Marvel Universe Tony in time for the film? Skrull? Everyone against him was a Skrull? Space Phantoms? Mark Millar gets retconned out of existence?

I know next to nothing about Iron Man and the real backstory and what not, so I won't be able to slam this one if it's inaccurate. I kind of like it better that way. I can just enjoy the pretty effects and explosions mixed with the sitcom like banter. Oh to be blissfully ignorant.

I don't think Tony Stark needs redeeming, he's a far more interesting character now then he's been in awhile. To go back to a pre Civil War Tony would be cheap...and relegate him B-list status in the Marvel U. No thank you.

Though the backstory was modified to incorporate our activities in the Middle East, that's fine. The core elements are more or less there and that's awesome. I too wonder who he will fighting because he can't just kill middle eastern terrorists and fend of government planes.

I checked Imdb, it list Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger. Looks like that's the villian.

It is rumored that the Mandarin will be manipulating things behind the scenes for a potential sequel showdown.

It's nice that they're getting better at making CGI that doesn't look improbably shiny. The little adjustments and wobbles in the flight scenes were a nice touch.
I'll await the reviews, but it looks like it will be worth a matinee, at least.
