There are so many reasons why the idea of an Iron Man movie makes me go "meh".
  • I'm a DC person; not a Marvel person. And sure, the Spiderman movies are a billion times better than anything DC has done in the movies, but still.
  • Even when it comes to Marvel, Iron Man has always bored me to tears. Just... nothing about him has ever interested me. Ever.
  • I didn't read Civil War, but I did read part of it, and I also read the hilarious remix, and from what I gather, Tony Stark is, next to Hank Pym, the most irredeemable, foul, black-souled, villain that Marvel has ever tried to pass off as a hero.
Countering all of that, however, is this. And all I can say is, "Holy God. I cannot wait for this."

Nah. Batman Begins was a better "origin" movie than the original Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 2 was good, but the ho-hum sequel kind of ruined it for me.

And hey...Jon said that the trailer wouldn't go on Apple until after the TV premiere! He lied! LIAR! [Big Grin]

(Or, they changed plans.)

EDIT:

Hmmm. The news is, Apple jumped the gun. Leave it up I say!

Spiderman 1 and 2 were the best Superhero movies ever.

There is no Spiderman 3. [Smile]

So how the heck will they redeem Marvel Universe Tony in time for the film? Skrull? Everyone against him was a Skrull? Space Phantoms? Mark Millar gets retconned out of existence?

Or they can say they're using Ultimate Iron Man. He's still a decent guy, right?

Oh no, it was at least a thick, juicy hamburger. It's just Spiderman was a thick T-Bone.

I'm still pretty "meh", but it doesn't look too bad or anything.

The first Spider-Man film was meatloaf. It was -good- meatloaf, but it was still meatloaf. [Wink]

Yeah. This is pretty much the original origin, updated and minus the commie-bashing.

Well, replace "commies" with "terrorists" anyway.

Ooooooooo.

Shiny.

I know next to nothing about Iron Man and the real backstory and what not, so I won't be able to slam this one if it's inaccurate. I kind of like it better that way. I can just enjoy the pretty effects and explosions mixed with the sitcom like banter. Oh to be blissfully ignorant.

I don't think Tony Stark needs redeeming, he's a far more interesting character now then he's been in awhile. To go back to a pre Civil War Tony would be cheap...and relegate him B-list status in the Marvel U. No thank you.

Pure Awesome condenced into a few minutes.

Though the backstory was modified to incorporate our activities in the Middle East, that's fine. The core elements are more or less there and that's awesome. I too wonder who he will fighting because he can't just kill middle eastern terrorists and fend of government planes.

I checked Imdb, it list Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger. Looks like that's the villian.

It is rumored that the Mandarin will be manipulating things behind the scenes for a potential sequel showdown.

I don't think Tony Stark needs redeeming,

Nothing wrong with being a lying, grave-robbing, friend-murdering facist?

he's a far more interesting character now then he's been in awhile.

Is that you, Mark Millar? [Smile]

To go back to a pre Civil War Tony would be cheap

Forcing him to be yet another Mark Millar strawman is cheap.

...and relegate him B-list status in the Marvel U. No thank you.

A B-lister before Civil War? No.

I agree about the Spiderman 3 bit but Batman Begins tops my superhero movie list.

You know, I saw the trailer and was supremely disappointed.

Then I spoke this morning to someone who'd read the script and worked on the set.

Now I'm very excited.

It's nice that they're getting better at making CGI that doesn't look improbably shiny. The little adjustments and wobbles in the flight scenes were a nice touch.

I'll await the reviews, but it looks like it will be worth a matinee, at least.
