I found a hard, golf ball sized lump to the side of Bert's spine today. It doesn't seem to hurt him when I touch it, but I'm not entirely sure. I called the vet worried that it was some kind of tumor, and he is concerned that something might have gone wrong with the SPCA's placement of the heartworms treatment, so he squeezed us in for tomorrow morning.

Please send good wishes for my Bert-bert.

(((Bert-bert))) I'm so sorry you have to go through this, pH. My cat recently swallowed a sewing needle. It was torture not knowing what would happen. The vet said to wait one or two days, and see if it passed. If not, it was probably lodged somewhere and I would most likely have to put him to sleep. Thankfully, it passed, but it was then I realized how much my pets meant to me.

((pH and Bert)) Hopefully it is something benign!

I remember how scary it was for us when I found a lump on our kitty's leg (which turned out to be a cancerous tumor commonly found in dogs). Luckily it was completely excised and he didn't have any problems, but it sure was scary when another bump popped up a couple years later (this time it was just a fatty tumor).

I'm really worried about him...Bert is the best buddy I've ever had. And he's a great protector. It makes me feel so much safer to know that he's in my house, keeping an eye on things.

Appointment's at 9am tomorrow. One of my friends mentioned that labs sometimes develop random fatty deposits...could this be something harmless like that?

I'm gonna try to get some rest soon before I can work myself into too much more worrying.

The vet took a sample from the lump. He said it looks like an infection from the heartworms treatment. Also, Bert has a fever. The vet gave Bert a bunch of shots and some antibiotics that I have to give to him twice a day. If it isn't shrinking by Friday, he's going to have to lance it. [Frown] Poor Bert. He was so good and friendly the whole time, even while the vet was using a needle to get some pus stuff out of the lump. I really hope they don't have to lance it.

((Bert)) [Smile]

My aunt had a similar problem with her dog years ago and the dog was perfectly fine. Now come to think of it I think he lived to be sixteen.
