I disagree. I don't like the casting of Pegg - mostly because I didn't realize this was to be a comedy. I enjoy Pegg's work, but I don't see him as Scotty AT ALL.
John Cho, on the other hand, is actually excellent casting.

I think Hot Fuzz demonstrated his ability to handle serious roles, even though it wasn't, exactly. But it could have been, which was part of what made it funny.
So I think he'll do a good job at it, presuming the script and direction are good (*crosses fingers*).

I think he'll be great. I hope somebody gives Zachary Quinto a brow wax, though. Bushy brows are fine for broody psychos or government computer geeks, but not Vulcans, IMO.

From what I hear, they intend to recreate the "Classic Spock" look as closely as possible. Right down to the "chicken soup" tinted skin. With that in mind, I'm sure they'll make the brows thin and angular.

I've got to admit, when I first heard this I thought 'Oh, no!'. But then I realised how much I love Star Trek movies when they do comedy right (as opposed to when they do it very badly indeed - Data's emergency flotation device comes to mind - ugh). Scotty and Bones often fulfilled the comic-relief-with-depth roles, so this casting could be a good thing, although I hope they will dye his hair dark and that he's able to do a brilliant Scottish accent.
I think I like the guy they've got for Sulu - he's even got the deep voice thing going on.
I wonder who's going to be McCoy.

maui babe: it comes by way of Simon Pegg, who likes to work that line into movies he does (at least, I definitely recall it from Hot Fuzz, and it seems like it might have been in Shaun of the Dead).

I have to admit, I got alittle giddy at work when I read this news on usatoday.com (the only website we can access on our computers.)
I've never been a fan of the original Star Trek series. I'm probably just alittle too young. But so far each new casting peaks my interest more and more.
