So... honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this. The Rock is going to play Black Adam. I guess it depends on who they get to be the Big Red Cheese. He has to be at least as big as Adam, no?

Some Hebrew scholars say that Adam can be translated as "Red man." So maybe the first human was an Amerind. But black?
Now if you bring evolution theory into the picture, and start saying that the first human was black, what are you implying? That all modern humans evolved FROM a black man--which in turn implies that blacks are the most primitive form of humans? See, you go in that direction for the sake of being PC, and you wind up being wildly un-PC. It would be better not to go there at all.

If you knew anything about evolutionary theory, Ron, you'd know that it isn't directed. There's nothing evolutionarily more primitive about the first man in comparison to any other man who has ever or will ever exist.

On the real subject of the thread, I'm sadly not terribly familiar with the Marvel family . . . of course, I've read most everything of Miracle Man, so I know pretty much who's being talked about .

I don't have a clue who Black Adam is... but in answer to Ron, the first humans probably did evolve in Africa (last I checked, someone correct me if the thought has changed), and therefor were probably black. But the black skin is merely a reaction to the environment. In Africa it protects from the sun. Up north it isn't needed and so gradually faded out when people migrated. White skin isn't any more evolutionarily advanced than black skin or vica versa. They're just reactions to different climates.

No Hebrew scholar worth a darn says such a thing. Yes, the word adamah is etymologically related to the Hebrew word adom, meaning "red" (possibly indicating reddish clay in the dirt). And yes, Adam's name comes from adamah, meaning "earth" or "dirt". But it's ludicrous to take that double connection and infer from it that Adam meant anything having to do with the color red.

For those who don't know (and care, and don't want to hit Wikipedia, which I'm sure has an article on him), Black Adam was Captain Marvel's opposite number. The wizard Shazam's first attempt at creating a hero. Rather than fading out because it wasn't needed, darker skin was actually selected against due to vitamin D absorption needs. There's less sunlight farther away from the equator, and people with lighter skin need less time out in the sun than people with darker skin in order to absorb the same amount of vitamin D.

No, Ron, I would not. Are you confusing David and Adam?
Apples are red. Tomatoes are red. Reddish earth is red. Red jelly beans are, as you might suspect, red. This does not mean that red jelly beans taste like apples, nor that they are a part of the nightshade family, like tomatoes. Nor does it mean that Adam had anything in common with any of the above. Except for reddish earth, and that only because it says so explicitly.
Sheesh.
Not to mention the fact that it's I Samuel 16:12, and it says he's reddish (ruddy is an okay translation), but nothing whatsoever about "look of youth". That's an extremely creative paraphrase.
