Don't laugh too hard. It means has more time on his hands to pursue his appeal, which he is doing.

[edited to reflect that Javert beat me to the first word - the good is obviously referring to the fact that the money-hungry lawyer got the sack, rather than that he will have more time to appeal. He is obviously a muppet and richly deserves the contempt of his peers and the public as a whole.]
