Reading through some of the thread deletion threads I remembered some situations where a thread seemed to make no sense whatsoever, because people had edited a previous post, and all the responses to that post suddenly became non-sequiters.

A lot of those edits were made to remove something rude or innappropriate, so I was annoyed because my natural tendency is to want to know what they said that was rude in the first place, even though I know perfectly well that leaving it there can propagate the hurt, so I'm actually very ok with these edits overall, even though my emotional response is one of annoyance.

Anyway, it has occurred to me that the creative and humorous amoung us (I don't include myself in that catagory) could intentionally edit posts so that later posts became punch-lines to posts that didn't even exist when the poster responded to them. (Is anybody following this?)

Of course, it can't work unless the thread already has some length, and it would be hard to follow. Kind of like the movie "Memento."

Also, this being the first post, if I follow my own guidelines, I should edit this post, so it won't exist in this form in the future, and then it would be really confusing to people trying to figure out how to participate in the thread.

So anyway, please post to this thread, ask questions, answer questions, edit your posts, and let's see what happens.

There was a similar game a while ago...

*searches*

Ah, here it is.

The rules:

quote:

1) When you add a post to the thread, you can only reserve the space, not actually post. (something like “[reserved spot/slot/post]”)
2) A reservation can be edited only one time.
3) No editing is permitted before there are at least, say, <edit> ... 37 [Big Grin] </edit> reservations in the thread [ahhh, the anticipation! [Wink] ]
4) No editing is permitted in the last 5 reservations
5) When you edit a post between two “empty” reservations, you can say whatever you like, as “unconnected” with the rest as possible (within the usual limits of consideration for other’s feelings).
6) When you edit a post after or before a “used” (ie edited) reservation, you have to “connect” with it.
7) It’s not forbidden to make more than one consecutive reservations, but the fun part is to “fit in between the others” [Smile]
8) There is no restriction on the length of the edited posts, but try to keep it to a minimum.
9) The rules shall not be changed for any reason <edit> aymore [Razz] . </edit>.

Rule number 1: Rule one - no pooftahs.
Rule number 2: no member of the faculty is to maltreat the Abbos in any way whatsoever - if there's anybody watching.
Rule number 3: - no pooftahs.
Rule number 4: - I don't want to catch anyone not drinking in their room after lights out.
Rule number 5: - no pooftahs.
Rule number 6: - there is no rule six!
Rule number 7 - no pooftahs.

That concludes the reading of the rules, Bruce.

Oh, I wasn't trying to make your game conform to those rules. I just quoted them so that you (anyone) could see them without clicking on the link.

So did the cow leave or what? I never realized there were "serious issues" there, if you know what I mean.

Still, it's kind of odd that'd be such a big issue. I mean...AC power should, in theory, work with something like that.

Edited for spelling

Mucus, I've heard that you like to eat mud? Would you say that's an accurate statement?

Indeed. I often enjoy eating mud whenever I encounter a new feature, such as being able to create emoticons.

The usual.

If I have stamps that say "First Class" but have no amount on them, and no letter, but I bought them before the last postal rate increase, do I have to add more postage?

Is it rude to sign a thank-you note with your and your fiancee's name? Miss Manners thinks so, but I can't figure out why. Presumably we *can* speak for each other in the matter of whether we're grateful.

My handwriting is ridiculously horrible, so Ericka does the signing for the both of us. If that's rude, it can't be any more offensive than forcing someone to decipher my chicken scratch.

Yeah, the same thing happend to me too. The mechanic ended up having to pry the while panel off to get to the nest.

When a tread dies it can no longer be used for mending. And that's just sad.
