So, for various and sundry reasons, I need to find somewhere where there is snow. I don't need it right at this exact moment, but I'm thinking sometime in January. It needs to be somewhere I can drive to within a reasonable amount of time (less than a day) from Tallahassee, Florida. I'm thinking North Carolina or Virginia or something. Would DC be snowing? If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it!

So after a brief glance at different things, it doesn't look like its snowing much south of New York. Any hints on when I might expect some?

Indiana is south of New York, and while it isn't snowing today, it might.

Ok, so hopefully she won't decide to get on Hatrack for the first time in forever, but this is the deal ... I want to take Jamie (my girlfriend) to see snow. She's been talking this whole winter type thinger about how she wants to see snow, so for a Christmas/Anniversary (which is Jan. 2nd) present, I was going to just tell her to set a weekend aside and then surprise her by driving her to see snow. She has seen it before, but I just thought it would be fun. I'd like to do at least a little traveling too. I haven't traveled in too long.

So, Eljay, if its a really big box ....

There are several ski/snowboard and tubing places in Western North Carolina that you could go to. It's possible it would snow in the Smokies in January, but that's not something you could really plan on ahead of time.

In Gatlinburg they often manufacture snow for the ski slopes if nature is uncooperative.

The best bet would be Tennessee's border with NorthCarolina. All less than 550miles from Tallahassee. Phone numbers for person-to-person checks of snow conditions. Most resorts have individual online snow reports and weather forecasts.

Yes. And in Gatlinburg they often manufacture snow for the ski slopes if nature is uncooperative.

I'm so sick of snow.

We're supposed to get another 6 inches of snow tonight.

Usually, in Kansas, we will get a snow; then a few days of sunshine where it all melts off; and a few days of dry weather, then maybe more snow.

Not this year. I think I'm in frickin' Minnesota or Iowa or something. The snow from last weekend hasn't melted yet, or been totally cleared from the roads, and it's supposed to snow more. And this is like the fifth one like this.

I really shouldn't complain though. We need the moisture. The past three winters have been nearly snowless and very dry. I'm just tired of driving in it. And out city/county/state funding says they are "out of funds and salt" for snow removal until the new year (4 more days) so anything that falls tonight -- well, snow emergency routes only will be cleared.

We've had snow once this year where I'm currently working. That's more than in the previous five or so years. [Smile] But it snowed a whole afternoon and quite a bit of snow caught on. Of course that whole afternoon we were in a meeting.....

Anyway, nice idea of a birthday present. [Smile]

It's snowing in NorthCarolina above 3000feet. 8to12inches near mountain peaks, 3to6inches below.

And it's wet, heavy, snowball fight snow.

I just drove through snow for 6 hours. NH and VT have enough to send you a whole ski resort full. Please. Come take it.

A very strong cold front will move across South Florida this evening.
Freeze watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning. The coldest temperatures of the season so far can be expected on Thursday morning, with a freeze likely for all of South Florida excluding the extreme East Coast.
A prolonged period of subfreezing temperatures is expected Thursday morning across Glades, Hendry, inland Collier, and inland Palm Beach counties, with a hard freeze possible in this region. Frost will be possible, but only in wind sheltered locations.
If there is any precipitation, could see snow flurries on the Space and Treasure Coasts.
[Laugh] Northern Florida temperatures will be above normal.

We got dumped on in Idaho last week, but we don't make the news for that. I couldn't drive my little truck out of our cul-de-sac for a few days because there was more than a foot of unplowed snow sitting there. It's still there, but has now been tamped down by our minivan.
