My husband's parents aren't doing well. His dad is on hospice with congestive heart failure, wasn't expected to make it through the night. His mom is not handling the situation very well. We're 1500 miles away and there's absolutely not a darn thing we can do, other than pray that he either recovers (not likely) or passes as peacefully as possible, and that MIL is okay.

My husband can't take off work to go down there unless his dad has actually passed on, and I can't go at all, being 35 weeks pregnant. He's trying his best to remain stoic, but I can see in his eyes how much this hurts him. I'm so sad. [Frown]

Prayers said. Let me know if there's anything else I can do (call and listen, send a Mr. Rogers book on when a loved one dies for the kids, anything.)

Thanks, everyone. So far, nothing's changed. Hubby talked to his mom last night and she's...obviously not all there at the moment. An example of her behavior lately: Hubby called on Christmas, and instead of "Merry Christmas" from his mom, he got a twenty minute, disjointed lecture on birth control.

Two of his half-sisters are there (FIL's side, grown before Hubby was born) and one of them says it's alcohol and Rx painkillers and that she's going to try to get MIL into rehab as soon as FIL passes on. The other one says the first one is not always honest...argh.

Both of them have asked if we'd consider moving down there, and, since we won't, if MIL can move here. Hubby said not here into this house, but an apartment in town would be fine...but not if she's an addict.

Sigh. Too much drama.

He's gone. [Frown]

Now for the unpleasant task of trying to make travel arrangements while trying not to sob on the phone to the receptionists.

Boon, I'm so sorry. What a very difficult situation, especially given your state of pregnancy and the family woes. Heavens!

Thanks everyone. Looks like there won't be any sort of funeral or memorial or anything, not sure why. Hubby still has to go down there tomorrow, though, to take care of the other stuff. [Frown]

Not sure how long he'll be gone, maybe just until the 10th or maybe until the 17th. Either way, he's going to miss the home visit from the midwife and doula next week, and I still have a list of stuff I have to buy and/or get ready before then. [Frown]
