I thought I lost my mind...

And is it because of April Fools or is it a bug that *every* news story on Penny Arcade is dated March 3rd? And the current comic is a broken image link...?

The "did you know"s and "on this day"s look just a tad suspect, too. [Smile]

Hmm. I take that back. The ledes look suspect but the articles seem legit, and the Apple and Google ones are definitely legit. Interesting!

Yeah, it looks like the pictures and news are the only parts that are totally legit. Although the "did you know" articles do seem to be real articles that were chosen to be misleading.

Yes, they do. Although they try to post several weird articles, just to make us wonder which one is really April Fool's. There's the "Garry Kasparov – taking up Shogi?" article today also, but I think it's a safe assumption that the "Fischer archives" are today's joke. [Smile]

Discover magazine used to do one every year, don't know if they still do.

OSC should put up an article about the forthcoming release of Ender's Game, the movie.

Nah, on second thought, he shouldn't.

An announcement that Alan Dean Foster has been tapped to write the novilization of Ender's Game: The Movie would be good too.

I couldn't get it pasted my husband (who works with high school students) but I did manage to get my sister and an old friend.

I got that one when I chose all the obvious answers. Changing to the opposite on everything yielded:

Okay, let's just get this over with quickly, like ripping off a medical adhesive: you did not do well on this test. You are not, by all available evidence, well suited to be a Virgle Pioneer, or any sort space explorer, really, or for that matter, any profession which requires leaving behind your creature comforts, your nice warm bed, your lovely wardrobe, your gourmet meals, your high-end home theater, your friends and family -- oh man, what have we gotten ourselves into here? We're kind of freaking out ourselves, actually. Help! We changed our minds! We don't want to go! [Clicks heels.] There's no place like home! There's no place like home! There's no place like -- [ Long silence. ] Hello. Still there? We're sorry about that unpleasantness with our previous reviewer. We can assure you, you tested just fine and would make a fine Pioneer; all you have to do is submit your video here.

Congratulations -- you are ideally suited to be a Virgle Pioneer; so ideally so, in fact, that one wonders why you aren't already living on a remote South Pacific island, serving as a biosphere test subject, washing dishes at a North Pole research station during the depths of winter or writing a highly intelligent, articulate political blog. At any rate, we want you for one of our upcoming Virgle launches. You'll love it -- the pay is great, the view from the spaceport should be spectacular, and we're told that algae and spirulina actually start to taste good after the hundredth consecutive day. Anyway, if you want to give Virgle a try, you can

Fluegel's 'B-Flat' Starts on a Good Note

quote:
All Things Considered, April 1, 2008 - For most of his 30 years, Simon Fluegel has explored the musical movement known as subminimalism. You probably know of him for the two-note cello concerto he wrote as a conservatory student. It was never performed by a full orchestra, but, in transcription, its simplicity made it a natural for toddlers in Suzuki lessons. Now comes Fluegel's most daring subminimalist composition: "B-Flat." The work is the subject of critical acclaim in Europe, as well as a forthcoming Canadian documentary film.

I think it's a joke... IGN isn't a studio, I don't believe. And the Apr 1 release date for trailer and movie is suspicious.

But that was very cool work
