Something that I've been wondering about. Is it legal for someone to put an advertisement up inside a privately owned building, say a library? And is it legal for someone to put ads into reading materials in such a building?

There's got to be a law against it, no?

If it's a private library, why wouldn't they be able to?

If you meant that it's a public building, there's advertising all the time in public sports stadiums and on public streets.

I think it would be a weird thing to make a law against. And how do you know if someone distributed the ads deliberately or was just using a flyer as a bookmark? Posting ads on a library billboard is something where I'd check with the librarian. I mean, usually it would have to be something that benefits the community or I imagine they'd take it down.

You're talking about putting fliers and the like on the bulletin board? Slipping business cards between the pages of the books? A corporate sponsorship of the library ("The Springfield Nuclear Library", f'rinstance)?

I don't see why there has to be a law against that sort of thing.

Are you referencing something here, or did you just come up with that?

Now that you mention it, I think it'd be funny to put business cards in books at book stores and libraries, matching businesses up with what people read.

Take weight loss books and put in advertisements for weight loss companies or health clubs.

Stuff relationship/marriage self-help books with cards for marriage counselors (or divorce lawyers for the cynical folks out there).

Put college brochures in the SAT/ACT prep guides.

Any other combinations (serious or not)?

...Come to think about it, though, this is just like the inserts in magazines, which are among my least favorite things ever.
