My kids love it, they can't stop singing it. And any commercial that combines giant squids, Stephen Hawking, astronauts, and mummies - come on, that's good stuff.

I'd never seen/heard it before, pretty cool. (I love tornadoes, I love arachnids. . . .) I think this should be the "Commercials we love to love" thread.

That is an amazing commercial. It just reminds me of how much I really love the Discovery Channel. It's incredible.

I like both the short & long versions (diff. words.) When I had Maggie about all I watched in the hospital was Discovery, and I was singing that for a week afterward.

This is one of my favorite commercials ever. Beanie loves when I sing along to it (since we watch a lot of Discovery Channel, that happens a lot).

My favorite "boom-de-yadda's" are from the african tribe and then from Stephen Hawking. Sooooo robotic.

I like Adam singing, "I love to try stuff" as he lights Jamie on fire. The looks on their faces are priceless. And the Deadliest Catch "boom de yadda." 'Cause it just seems to fit.

I thought they were all saying hoom de yadda and the only one that said boom de yadda was the weapons show guy when he fires the grenade launcher, which I always thought was appropriate and funny.

He emphasises the "Boom" but apparently they're all boom de adda, actually. If you watch that link.

I am absolutely sure that Sig is my favoritest. My husband thinks he's awesome, Sig has the same type of work ethic and business sense my husband does, so he likes the way the Northwestern is run. He has several things in his office that have "Sig sayings" on them. Like "Shut Up and Fish" and "Stick and Stay and Make it Pay" and "Robots are Good". He's memorized Sig's whole speech about how he likes his employees to be robots, who just do what they're told and don't complain and get the job done.

Sig is awesome.
I haven't watched Deadliest Catch in a while, but isn't the Northwestern the ship that also includes Edgar? He seems to be one of Sig's best crew members, but I also can't imagine any definition of "robot" that would include him.
Maybe I'm getting my ships confused.

See, Sig is the one I like the most as a person-- he's like a father figure or something. But I find Phil on the Cornelia Marie hilarious (despite every other word being bleeped out!) And sometimes I find myself rooting for the Time Bandit.
(Upon checking out Wikipedia, Sig is the only one who's been on every season-- I think part of it is that he's a good sport about the cameras. So he's kind of central to the show.)

Edgar is Sig's brother. His other brother Norman is also on the boat, but is pretty camera-shy.
Edgar is the deck boss and engineer, so he is kind of the head deckhand.
The robot comment was about a time Sig drove them in a 36+ hour grind with no sleep or real breaks. He gave the speech about robots because he said he liked them that way - too tired to talk back, so worn out all they could do is go through the motions without argument.
Sig is a pretty hard taskmaster, but lest you feel sorry for his deckhands - if you've ever seen the final tallies for the season, the Northwestern deckhands make far and above what any others make. And, the safety record on the Northwestern is unparalelled - they stay safe, they make a lot of money, and they are truly a family atmosphere on that boat. He has the same crewmembers year after year, and only recently had an opening for a greenhorn and that greenhorn talked about how long the line to get a spot on that boat was.
Edgar was even interviewed once and asked if he would ever like to be captain - and he said something to the effect of "No way. Sig's made me a lot of money over the years, I'm perfectly happy where I am."

Am I the only one who sang this song in Primary as a kid? The words were slightly different and the tune was just enough different that I didn't recognize it until they got to the boom de yadda part. We sang it as a round and it ended with a "boom, boom, boom".

Never heard it before, but it sounds like that kind of song. What's it called and what are the words?

There may have been a second verse too but I mostly remember singing the first verse as a round (or maybe it was as a cannon. the tune is very similar to the one in the discovery commercial but it climbs but each line starts one note higher than the previous line.

It's been referred to as a "camp song" enough in descriptions around the net that I assumed they must have written new words to a song they remembered from when they were kids. Cool to know some people here sung it, too!

We sang that a lot when I was little, but my younger siblings preferred the valderee valderah song.
