So I'm scheduled to leave tonight for a couple of weeks with my daughters and my grandson on the mainland. I checked the Delta website to see what the movie is and whether they would feed us or not. I watched as the flight status went from delayed to delayed more to cancelled.

I was lucky, I suppose. I noticed it almost immediately after the flight was cancelled. I'm here in my own home and can go beach tomorrow instead of hanging out at an airport. I'm rebooked on the same flight tomorrow night.

But I am so BUMMED! I was really looking forward to seeing everyone and now I have to wait another day.

[Cry]

I hope my return flight goes well.

That sucks. *hug*

You know about the new checked-luggage fees, right?

That is so frustrating. I'm flying Southwest the 19th and am a bit worried that some sort of BS will happen.

I'm pretty sure I don't have to pay for the first bag, and I'll carry on everything else.

I'm feeling better about it now. For some reason, when I first heard I couldn't leave tonight I thought I'd have to work tomorrow, but that's just silly.

My daughter and I will spend the day doing Maui tourist things and I'll be there Saturday morning instead of Friday.

Yup, looks like Delta is one of the airlines still allowing one free checked bag.

We just bought some tickets on Southwest's website. Half-price tickets (work out to about $100/ticket less than the other airlines were offering) and they allow 2 checked bags for free still, $25 for third checked bag, $50 for each bag thereafter till ninth, after ninth it's $110/piece. And they still don't count gate-checked strollers and carseats toward your total, unlike other airlines. AND they still allow pre-boarding with small children.

The one problem with Southwest is they don't allow dogs. Otherwise, I would fly them a lot more.

Southwest doesn't fly to Hawaii, so I seldom fly them. But I got a great deal for my daughter to fly from Utah to my son's graduation in California last spring. And they have student rates, which works for most of my children.

I was pretty stoked to get this flight, because it's non-stop from Maui. I hate having to make connections in Honolulu, LAX or Vegas.

I've been sending my children to their father on the mainland every summer for the past 7 years, and they've always had to make connections before. I finally got smart and always routed them through Phoenix where my ex's mother lives. She's always happy to see them and they can stay with her if they have an overnight layover (very common on Hawaii to mainland flights) or if there are issues (which there are more and more).

This is the last year I have to send my youngest daughter. I'm really quite relieved, for many reasons. Not the least of which is how expensive and unreliable it's all become.

Speaking of terrible luck with air travel, my sister had a flight from LAX to Honolulu On Aloha Airlines that got cancelled when they went out of business.

The ticket she bought to replace it was from ATA. [Mad]

That sucks Jux. That was a pretty scary week here. I bought my plane tickets the day ATA went under.

I just checked the website and the plane is boarding on the mainland for the flight to Maui now. That's a good sign, since it never got this far yesterday.
