Hey, folks. I plan on using part of my check from the Federal Government, aside from the part I'm spending on Boot Camp (I got accepted! Yay!), to buy a Nintendo Wii and a Wii Fit.
I haven't owned a game console in years (Nintendo 64). I have two kids, girls ages six and five. We're looking to get the Wii for fitness and for fun.
So basically, I thought I'd open this thread up as an all purpouse Wii review thread for people to review any Wii accessories or games.
But if anybody has any opinions on any Wii games (or backwards compatible games) that are any of these things, I'd apprciate those, too:
Games that are good exercise
Time-Crisis style shooting games.
Comic Book/Superhero Games
Games linked to classic game series (eg Mario, Metal Gear, Metroid, Zelda)
Myst-type puzzle games
I look forward to everybody's thoughts.

My wife and I have enjoyed our Wii. We've both thought about getting Wii Fit and probably will soon.
Both Rayman and Rayman II are really fun games that can also be tiring (you move the two remotes alternately up and down really fast to run, etc.) and those two have really fun shooting sub-games.
Wii Play (I believe it's called) has a fun duck hunt game.
We've enjoyed Paper Mario and just bought Mario Kart for the Wii and I can't wait to play it (happy birthday to me!!).
Zelda: Twilight Princess is exceptionally fun for the Wii. Shooting the hook shot or the bow and arrow just isn't the same in any other game system now.
I just bought Super Smash Bros. but that game is probably more fully appreciated by people who have played the earlier versions of the game (the game doesn't use the Wii's unique movement capabilities).
For younger kids even something as simple as creating a Mii can create hours of fun. My wife's younger brother (age seven) would spend hours making funny looking Miis just to change them ten minutes later after one game of golf.
All in all, an extremely enjoyable experience that I would recommend for any young family (or anyone and everyone, for that matter).

I've been working with my Wii Fit for a week now and LOVE it! I have never been so motivated to workout. I like that I have a trainer to walk me through exercises and it mostly doesn't seem like work. If you work out long enough you "unlock" new content. It really appeals to my gamer mentality. My 3 year old and I are learning yoga together and jogging every afternoon. The family is in this together. I am going to kick Hubby's butt!

Shooting games: I liked Medal of Honor. It has several game modes for all skill levels. Farcry was horrible.
Mario Galaxy is awesome. So much fun, same feel as Mario 64 but with a bunch more to do.
The Simpsons game is pretty good. It's funny, has good puzzles, good levels, and has new-ish episodes never seen on tv. The episodes are the levels, with an intro and an outro and gameplay in the middle.
Dancing With the Stars is hilarious. My girlfriend made us get it, I swear. It's the only active, exercise type game I play, though I don't play much.

Happymann, that's a good tip about kids and Miis. When my kids did play once at a friend's house, the Miis were half of what they talked about. Thanks for the other tips, too.
Dawnmaria, do you think the balance board will end up being a viable accessory for other games?
Vonk, what's the rating on that Simpsons game? I'm just wondering whether it's one to buy or one to rent and play after the girls go to bed.
Also, how does gameplay in Dancing with the Stars go? Is there a level for "Penn" level dancing?

I played wii fit at my friends house, and i thought it was cool. If you are willing to actually do stretches and excercises on the pad, its great. The whole balancing games and wii fit age is kinda dumb. It gives you your age based on how you can balance, not how you do the excercises. I would recomend the game if you take it seriously, but the games in it (at least the ones ive played) didnt realy help you get super active Its still way better for you than a regular console or other wii games Posts: 856 | Registered: Jun 2007

I've only had a wii for less than a month, so I don't know many of the games, but of those I do know...
Mario Galaxy is indeed amazing. As someone who doesn't like 3-d games too much (I like it simple: up, down, left, right), I found the game intuitive & creative, and with none of the "camera angle" problems that turned me off of the Gamecube Mario games.
Mario Kart is old skool racing, but more fun. Well, the Battle Mode lacks some of the original game's charms, but the actual racing is incredible. I'm told that the online features are great too, but haven't yet tried them out.
WiiPlay & WiiSports probably get played the most around here, and I can certainly get tired out by, say, tennis or baseball or boxing.
Rock Band is suppose to be coming out on the Wii in a couple of weeks (we already have it for the Xbox 360), and it's a great game for both exercise and hanging out as a group (family or friends) - at least if you get into it. We've played for hours at a time, only stopping when the singer starts to lose his/her voice and the rest of us are sore from jumping around and banging on the drums.

I think that any ski games they come out with will be great for the board. I did enough to open the snow board part yesterday and we all had a good laugh watching me try that out! As far as it helping you get active, I think it depends on how you approach it. The balance and yoga parts, I really use as a warm up and cool down. The hoola hoop and boxing bag get my heart rate up and the step aerobics and island lap jog finish the burn out quite nicely. I've lost 5 pounds since I got it a week and a half ago. Admittedly, I am starting out from couch potato status so this is great for me. If you are in super shape, this might seem a little baby-ish.

You've gotta be kidding. You haven't yet tried the online modes?Mario Kart Wii was BUILT for online play! I have seen no better online features on any Nintendo machine EVER!

We have a few games but spend almost all of our time on Wii Sports and Mario Cart. Everyone loves it. I have four girls (4, 6, 11, & 11) and they all love it. My wife even loves it. She hates that she can't beat me at tennis though.

Is Zack & Wiki good? It looks a little goofy, but I see it also looks well-reviewed.
Sounds like Mario Cart and Super Mario Galaxy are pretty well liked.
How good is the control interaction on Tomb Raider for the Wii? The learning curve on some of the other systems was part of what kept me out of it--I didn't have a lot of time to play, and what time I did have to play often ended up going to just figuring out how to play again.
Has anybody played Lego Indiana Jones yet? I've heard good things about Lego Star Wars.

You must do one thing if you own a Wii. Get Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It's the most outstanding first person shooter interface I've ever used. It's very intuitive. Definitely a must have on the Wii console. Very good puzzles as well.

my friend and i play smash bros and mario kart every time i go hang out with him. it's like a tradition now. those are the main two multiplayer games out. both can be played online as well.

Wii Star Wars was the favorite in my house. I can't wait to get Indiana Jones.
Ratatoullie is pretty good except its single player. We like the multiplayer best around here. Rat has beautiful graphics, but only uses some of the special wii controller stuff. It feels alomst like a last minute add-in. The unlockable bonus rounds are not great, but easily skipped.
Wii sports is good for a while, but we've tired of it.
We got Wii-play to get the extra controller and we love most the games on it, Cow racing, Duck hunt game, tank game, pool, fishing game, pool. some ar unplayable do to difficulty like the table tennis game. (some of these games are very easy for small kids to get the hang of and enjoy)
I played Mario Kart and its awesome. We'll definitely be picking that one up sometime.
