I don't know how much you know about Linux, but you seem to be focused on entertainment. Linux Mint might be for you. Maybe it is a little ominous that their server was hacked.
It is basically Ubuntu with more media codecs.
I would recommend Downloading the Moka5 player and subscribing to so some of their Live PCs. They are mostly modified Linux Distros, due to licensing.
If you are really wanting to get into Linux, you can use the Moka5 Creator to install several different distros. Moka5 acts as a host for VMware player where you can install almost any OS and play it within Windows.
It keeps it completely separate from your OS. Right now I have my son's machine dual booting to XP and Moka5 (you can either run it within windows or set it up to boot to Moka5), and then I have him subscribed to LadyBug and Edu-Nix.
I carry around a a self created version of Windows Server and XP on a flash drive I use to study and experiment with.
You may want to try Wine Desktop, which seems to be a custom Linux OS revolving around the WINE application made for public use on Moka5.
Anyway, I suggest toying with Moka5 because you can install different versions of Linux and try them out before you choose which one for your dual boot.

The kernel is Mach, which isn't really any version of BSD (though it was designed as a replacement for the BSD kernel), and the userland is modeled on the FreeBSD userland, but with significant changes, particularly in startup and services.

On an unrelated note, does anyone else find the iPhone "You want to know what exactly 3G means? It makes things fast. That's as technical as we think our users can handle." commericals as unintentionally funny as I do?
