I've pimped Sarah Prineas and her book The Magic Thief here before. Naturally, I bought the book when it came out, and started reading it aloud to my boys.
My eldest soon snatched it away from me and read it quickly. he stayed up late to finish it (unbeknownst to me) and instead of quietly cutting his light out and getting away with it, he came into MY bedroom at 10:30pm on a school night, dancing around and telling me all about the climax and how awesome it was.
"When is the next one coming out?" he asked. He looked crestfallen when I said next summer, but I was pleased. Rick Riordan and Sarah Prineas have helped hook my boy on Book Crack, and I couldn't be happier.
Now, I had told Sarah I'd like to take her out if any of her events brought her to the Atlanta area (she has family nearby, so she had told her publicist she'd like to come here). So, the Decatur Book Festival loomed, and we made plans to meet up.
When I realized how jazzed my boy was about her story, I asked if she would mind giving him an interview. She was very gracious and game for it. We loaded up the gang and went to the book festival. (We love Decatur anyway-- always something going on there, and it's on MARTA. The boys love riding MARTA, and screaming "THIS IS MARTA!!!" while theatrically kicking each other in the chest. No, they haven't seen that movie, but we watch a LOT of YouTube.)
It was so awesome to see my quiet, shy boy so animated. You can see his energy in the video -- it was like he was interviewing a Rock Star.
Now, this was our first go at video editing, and there are things we'll do differently the next time he does something (he wants to do more film projects), such as check the $##@! batteries on our digital mic beforehand. Still, he's pretty happy with it.

I literally laughed out loud when I read that.

The author just emailed me. O_O She's in London on a book tour, but she'd like to put the video up on her website when she gets back. She wondered if it would be okay, since she knows I'm usually pretty careful about putting my kids' faces or names on the web.
But I figure he's old enough to do his videos and he WANTS to put them out there, so *shrug* I think it'll be okay.
He took the DVD to school today to turn in for his Reading project. *crosses fingers*
