My Windows XP computer keeps trying to re-install software I've removed from the computer. The installer starts up unbidden and requests that I insert the install disks. I select cancel installation and the process repeats. The only way I can get it to stop is to go into task manager and kill the process. Then I'm good for a while (hours to days) until it starts again. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem and how to stop it. I've scanned for virus can't find anything.

If you go to Start -> Run and run msconfig, then go to the startup tab, what all do you see there?

The ASPEN was removed with the uninstall process. I don't remember about PhotoGallery. Both were removed over a year ago and the problem started more recently.

It is strange that this is happening now, especially if the programs were uninstalled properly.
As fugu says, you may be able to prevent whatever process is demanding the install disks from loading on startup by running msconfig from the start menu, finding the relevant program under either "Startup" or "Services", and un-checking it.
If that doesn't work, it may be necessary to remove a registry entry- and I don't recommend doing that without more specific help.
