One of my really good friends asked me to try D&D 4.0 with him and I decided to give it a shot. I've played a few games that are posted on a website that's open to the public. They use a java based map tool program called....wait for it....Map Tools. They also use Skype for the talking that of course is abundant at a healthy D&D game. Quite a few people are joining the site these days and I asked them if it would be alright for me to open it to Hatrackers. They said the more the merrier as I believe they could always use more players, and DMs.

They do session games to introduce folks who are new to D&D as well as campaigns for seasoned players. Games are on a first to sign up basis.

They play with some slightly modified rules. Each session or campaign is geared towards characters of a specific level range, and you typically level at the end of any evening of playing. If your character dies you can't use them ever again, but of course you can simply reroll a character of the exact same specs and name them something else. For stats you simply assign a 16, 14, 13, 12, and 11 value to the stat of your choice. And of course in the event of a disagreement the DM is always right.

Overall I've greatly enjoyed the people I've played with thus far and would love for some hatrackers to join the adventures. If you have any interest or questions feel free to post in the thread, and I'd be happy to assist you any way I can.

Be sure you download maptools and skype before a scheduled game by following this link.

Hope to hear from anyone interested. [Smile]

I use Map Tool in my play-by-post game.

I just use it for movement and battle management; I've never used it for an actual live game, though I know it's set up for that.

Blayne: Nope not needed, just get map tools and Skype and you should be good to go.

mph: The campaigns never run more than once a week, and it's usually a 3-4 hour commitment per session. I'd suggest trying a session just to see if you'd like to stick around.

I personally probably won't be playing this week, but will likely next week.

Also you don't have to join with the intention of being a player. If you wish to create a campaign and DM there is always that need on the site as well. But I'd get to know the site administrator first before attempting to just waltz in and start story telling.

FToaS: That's why I am not playing this week as well, maybe next week?

Edit: As an aside, my forum name on Uerth is also BlackBlade.

Sorry, but I won't be able to make any time commitment for the next month at least.

Not sure what WoTC is.

Just make sure you have the version the site is currently using as occasionally they release updates and if you update before the site does often you won't be able to run the session along with everybody else.

The way you can do this is to connect to maptools through the site every time.

Wizards of the Coast, 4th Edition is supposed to have an Online Game server engine thingy to allow the above.

That component doesn't exist yet, Blayne. WotC promises to deliver it "someday."

I looked into it Blayne, there are no plans currently to implement that service whenever it's finished. I believe a monthly subscription fee will likely come along with it. Some of the players probably wouldn't enjoy a previously free experience being upgraded with a price tag.
