My neighbors next door have been making vield threats to me for several weeks now, and have taken to unleashing their attack dogs whenever I pass by. Admittedly, these dogs are pretty small and usually incapable of penetrating my jeans, but still.

I need some advice as to how I can best fight my neighbors back!

Nuke the place from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Sneak into their house.

And steal everything.

A stray dog took up residence in our neighborhood a few months back. She was really friendly and the kids started petting her. She got kind of territorial and would follow me when I walked to pick them up from school, etc. She really did NOT like the mailman. One day I was in the yard when he came by, and she started barking at him very aggressively. He looked like he had dealt with her before ... he had some sort of spray all ready in his hand, and sprayed her right in the face as he was trying to get by. Don't know what it was but she really didn't like it.

Long story short, if they stay in their yard I don't know what you can do, but if they come after you, you could always arm yourself and go postal on 'em.

Just last weekend, our neighbor was walking up a nearby street to pick up her grandson at his friend's house. A large dog jumped over a six-foot fence in a neighboring yard and ran over to her grandson. He happened to have a stick in his hands, and drove the dog away. But then the dog ran over to our neighbor and actually bit her on the leg, breaking the skin. Luckily, the owners arrived home at that point. The man had to run over and physically pull his dog away from her leg. She went to the hospital to get fixed up, and the owners apparently paid for all the medical expenses. But the hospital was required to call Animal Control, who will have to take the dog and put it down. I didn't realize they had to do that with dogs that attack people.

Phanto--go to your neighbors and apologize for whatever they're angry at you about. Tell them you're genuinely sorry and you want to be a good neighbor. Eventually they will feel so guilty for how they've treated you that they will fall into a deep depression and lose their jobs. This is the ultimate payback.

Spray your crotch with steak spray. I've heard that really works.

On a more serious note:

Oh, yeah. This they do. My four-year-old cousin was attacked by a dog about two years ago, and actually had to have a piece of her face reattached. I mean, we're talking serious wounds and major reconstructive surgeries, four of them. She was in the home of a neighbor, with adults there, when the dog freaked out at her. Of course, the hospital called Animal Control, but the owners of the dog had the nerve to try and fight them to keep the dog. That just gets my vigilante dander up.

I wouldn't take aggressive dogs lightly, even small ones. My daughter was walking near our home a few weeks ago and a strange dog came from between two parked cars and attacked her without provocation. It was not an especially large dog, but she had to have stitches and a course of antibiotics. We never did learn who the dog belonged to, although I filed a report with the police department.

I never walk in my neighborhood without a stick or a bag or something I can swing to protect myself.

As for the neighbors who are threatening you, make sure you document everything in case you need to take action.

Indeed. And depending on the laws in your state you might want to record their conversation with you (so it's not he said/they said about the threats.) If it's necessary to notify them in your state/area, do so. Just, when you walk by and they start to threaten you, say, "I have a tape recorder running in my pocket and am recording this conversation." (Profanity and invective will likely follow...) Anyway, it's good to be able to prove that you're not the agressor and that the threats are actually occuring when you have to file for a restraining order or something.
