I'm getting two of every letter. It's ridiculous. And Brother says that if it still doesn't work after I use the alignment tool three times, it will have to be serviced. Really? Why don't I just go buy a new printer. It'll probably cost the same. I've probably only had the thing for about a year, maybe a little more. Any suggestions before I junk the thing? There's a sale on printers at Best Buy. Anyone have any printer suggestions. My last printer before this was a Lexmark and it only lasted a year or so too. Is there any printer company that makes a quality product that isn't hugely expensive?

I'm just really annoyed. I mean, the nearest service center is 20 miles away, so I'll have to drive it up there, probably leave it for goodness knows how long, pay to have it realigned, then drive back up there to pick it up. The alignment tool made the problem worse not better. *gah*

I have an HP that's been going strong for about 4 years.
(My dad's two identical Brother multi-function machines both had a lemony character as well. Based on my very limited experience I am not impressed with their machines.)

I'm currently using an HP 950 that is... quite old. I don't know how old. It still works, though.

Laser printers are absolutely the best investment you can make. I got one about 3 years ago. It cost about 150 bucks and has yet to use up the toner that came with it. It is a black and white printer, but that's all I needed it for. No head alignment problems (no print head to align, you see), and toner cartridges run close to the same price as ink cartridges, but last about 10 times as long (or longer depending on the manufacturer). They are fairly bulky, though. Of course, they also print with *much* better quality, in my opinion.
*edit: Oh. And I had it in storage for a year as well. Popped it on to my computer to print out a map and it went right back into perfect operation. No head cleaning or anything.

I'd love a laser printer, but I need the scanner/copier feature, and I also need color. The problem of course is that while those functions may be available on laser printers they are much more expensive and therefore not in my budget right now. Oh well. I just wish that I could find something of quality that would last. I seem to have bad luck with printers.

A color laser can cost under $150. A scanner costs $30. Both, separately, will work better than one of those God-awful "multifunction" devices, which are designed to cut every corner known to man and dog.
