....(with special guest stars, the Transformers.)

This looks kinda fun in a brainless way, but I can't help but wonder what this film's equivalent of Anthony Anderson eating donuts and shrieking will be. [Razz]

Or Bumblebee peeing on people. Or the endless, painful masturbation gag. Or the Sector Seven stuff. Or the Beef throwing a hissy fit over Megan's car-thieving past when he should really be worried about evil robots trying to kill him. Or...AAAGH! I just wanted to watch robots fighting other robots! That's all I asked for! Was that so wrong? [Cry]

PT,
Who would you have liked to direct? Brainless fun is a good way to describe the movie. I enjoyed it as a good waste of two hours. I didn't expect more than that though. I think a lot of people did.

Am I the only person getting sick of trailers full of disjointed chaos which tell you nothing about the movie? I mean, maybe I'm getting jaded, but the special effects have gotten boring. Of course the movie is going to be full of cool digital robots, that's a given! You don't need to wow me with them. You need to tell me why I should care enough to go spend money seeing them. Part of that is showing me there's a story involved somewhere.

Ugh. It just looks boring.

All I expected was to see the title characters. Fighting each other. [Smile]

What I got was 20-30 minutes of that, plus a couple hours of "human interest" that was neither human nor interesting.

I know, I know. "You just hate fun movies, Puffy." [Wink]

I agree with "brainless", but not "fun." I thought the first movie was tedious and dull and uninteresting. "Fun" never once crossed my mind.

You didn't answer who you would like to direct. I think any big budget summer movie is going to have the same basic premise.

I'd be interested in seeing what Brad Bird or Genndy Tartakovsky would do with a Transormers film, but I wouldn't want to waste them on it, if that makes sense. [Wink]

Yeah, Wall-E and The Dark Knight turned out no better than Transformers. [Wink]

Replace "big budget summer movie" with "Extremely-padded popcorn flick" and I'll agree. And read my posts in full: I'm not objecting to the budget or the action, I'm objecting to the pointless filler. Who cares if the Beef and Megan Midriff's infatuation hits the skids? Who cares if code-crackin' Aussie chick is best friends with Minstrel Show Sitcom Stereotype #46? No one. And yet, they got more screen time than Starscream. There's something wrong about having a major villain be an afterthought. [Smile]

Wall-E and The Dark Knight are two different examples.

Wall-E is Pixar and they have an uncanny knack for making quality films every time. They have great stories FIRST then put the budget around it to get the job done.

The Dark Knight wouldn't have been good had it not been for Heath Ledger. I could hardly sit through Batman Returns.

I was thinking more of Hitchcock. It too was brainless fun. Not a "real" story.

I do agree we should call them Extremely-padded popcorn flicks.

I would like to see Brad Bird. I love Iron Giant and The Incredibles. I don't know Genndy Tartakovsky. I IMDB'd him, but don't know any of his work.

Batman Returns: Batman Begins?

Hitchcock: Hancock?

You think that the only difference between The Dark Knight and Batman Returns is Heath Ledger?

I think that's more typical of teaser trailers. When a second trailer comes out it usually has some actual dialogue and gives at least some context for the random chaos. Just wait a couple of months.

I think that's rather the point. Instead of saying, "Let's cash in on 80s toy nostalgia with a Transformers movie we threw together from scraps of scripts that didn't work" maybe they should have started with a real story.

I completely disagree. Hancock may not have had the tightest story ever, but it had a story. One where I couldn't guess every turn a half hour before it happened even. I was pretty darn happy with it.

The movie is about GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING. Honestly, what more do you need to know?

Saw this trailer in front of Coraline over the weekend. My son was on the edge of his seat the whole time; he knew what it was the second it started.

Pretty much. I have stated here many times that I do not like Christian Bale at all and especially as Batman. If HL didn't make the movie, I wouldn't have bothered to watch it more than once.

That it's actually about giant robots fighting?

All the decepticons need is to dredge up six shot and there needn't be any more Transformer movies.

Transformers was about what my watch looked like in the dark.

At least, that's all I remember about the movie...

You do know I'm Canadian, right, Blayne? Either way, I'm not complaining about movies (that's a different discussion) - I just hate trailers these days. They're boring.

And you sir have a laughing severed head rolling to and fro, with little apparent respect for the laws of physics, or even common courtesy!

For shame sir.

Definitely a medievalist. I do expect quality. I don't expect perfection, though. I expect monkey butt-trumpets, ambulatory genetalia (NSFW), exploding kings, and fat pilgrims getting stuck in tombs.

I'm not sure what that says, aside from that I enjoy weird situations. Fighting robots are right up my aisle.
