So I had to RMA a hard drive (it started making clicking noises of the bad sort) and the company sent me the replacement in advance of me sending in the old unit so that I can clone the old drive to the new. I've done this kind of thing WAY to often, so I wasn't too worried.

Well, it's been a while, and since the last time I've done this, I've updated to SATA style drives and Windows Vista 64.

Turns out that the utilities provided by the HD manufacturer aren't compatible with Vista, and the bootable CD for using the DOS-based disk cloner doesn't have the drivers to be able to use my SATA cd drive.

It's like this HDD company is stuck in 2002. Grrr...

I've used Acronis TrueImage a couple times to clone hard disks. You can download a free 30-day trial, so you'll have plenty of time to clone your disk without actually having to buy the software. Might be worth a look.

Acronis is good. I didn't know that they had released an upgrade for Vista.
