I am so sad. *sobs and gropes for a tissue* This is the first time I didn't turn in art for the art show. I tried hard to finish, but 'M' and 'L' ripped up my paper. Then I gave him a sharp pop in the snoot, but the wussy tattle tale couldn't take it. Here's how it went: Teacher:Did you hit 'L' and 'M'? Me:For defense, yes. 'L' and 'M':You punched us in the face for nothing! T:Is this true, Skyler? Me:No, they ripped my paper and then called me names! T: 'L', 'M', is this true? L and M: N-no, we were talking about something we saw on uh, Myspace. How ridiculous!
<Removed names again. Skyler, please refrain from using full names unless you get said person's express permission. And even then, it would be better to leave them off. It's not necessary to make your point. Thank you. --PJ>

I think the more important lesson is don't hit, even if you think there is provocation. I think this is especially important for a girl, because most boys have been taught not to hit back. In that sense, it's like hitting a defenseless person.

Yeah, it sounds like the punch didn't help much - now your teacher is upset with you and you still have no art to turn in anyway.

You guys have no idea how seriously Skyler takes her artwork. She is not generally violent toward other children, and has never gotten in trouble for anything other than talking before this. I don't generally approve of hitting, but...while I would prefer she not hit, the kid's a really good artist, and has won quite a few contests. It'd be different if they had ripped the work of someone who could barely draw a stick figure. She'll probably be selling her work before she's 18, and I have absolutely no doubt she'll be a professional artist if she wants. The little ruffians will learn their lesson, and it was likely to go down like this anyway. We live in a very rural area, and she goes to school with the same little kids every year, and they'll all go to junior high and high school together. It's not like she'll have to continually teach this lesson again and again. Word spreads, and even if it doesn't, there are only so many kids you have to teach, because they're not all little buttmunches.

On the topic of names, Skyler is a freakin awesome name.
On the topic of giving "a sharp pop in the snoot", while I'm not going to give any sort of a blanket statement, I'll just say I can picture myself pretty much echoing steven should I ever become a father and ever have my kid give someone "a sharp pop in the snoot". Heh. I really like that wording.
What kind of art do you like to do Skyler/Luna? My mom is an artist of sorts and she's tried to ... encourage my inner artist at different points in the past. I never really was able to do anything much but that didn't stop her from "encouraging". All that to say, while my attempts at art are reminiscent of a blind monkey scribbling, I do love to appreciate others work.

Well, I enjoy anime alot, but I occasionally draw animals. I made up a creature myself called a panimal that is a human with animal ears and tails, the animal usually going with the certain personality that the person has.

When my daughter was two, we had her at this daycare where my partner worked. One day, they introduced two boys into the class. Brothers, aged 3 and 4. And they had behavior problems. The four year old made the mistake of coming at Tova with a stick. At which point Tova took the stick away from him and whapped him with it.
My partner was in a meeting later that day, and the woman who ran the daycare brought up what had happened. And this was in northern California, where touchy-feely is the thing. And it was clear that this woman wanted us to punish Tova. But my partner said, "There's no way I'm going to punish my daughter for defending herself."
The moral of that particular story was that the boys never bothered her again. The theory that if you ignore bullies they'll go away has been disproved so many times that I can't imagine why it still gets used.

I once got the advice to punch any bully in the face once and save myself some years of tourment, by my father.
Luckily I was an early bloomer and never had to deal with that in grade or middle school, in high school I have gotten two fighting warnings but the person I was fighting got suspended each time. Even under a "zero tolerence rule". I am just lucky I have an understanding Vice Principle, and that I have proven smart enough to stay away from unneccisary violence.

Dude, really? You think someone's efforts are less meaningful if they aren't as talented?
But, Skylar, I feel sorry for you. That would really suck. Some kids crushed a bridge that I made out of toothpicks when I was, I think, twelve, and I cried for two days.
