Man, watching the whole forging process they used, it was amazing what techniques the Japanese came up with to wrest the best possible product they could from their crappy steel.

It's been too long since I was actively practicing martial arts. I've got to find a place that teaches kendo.
I greatly admire japanese sword design, but I'd feel foolish owning such a thing without at least a halfway competent ability to use it.

I was going to join a local kendo club at one point, but I found out it had ceased operation a couple years back.

Iaido, by my understanding, is pretty much "draw, kill, clean, sheathe." Aside from that I'd like to learn more about accurate strikes, weapon usage, and swordplay as an art, I think I'm far more likely to find kendo teachers than iaido ones.
And it also seems a bit like the difference between judo and jujitsu. Yes, jujitsu is probably more useful in an actual fight, but it also encompasses some pretty nasty business.
