I have a few questions for people who have set up a wireless network. I have two computers now, and I'd like to set up file sharing between my laptop and my desktop. I have a wireless router (D-Link) an both my computers have wireless access. I have it set up so that bot computers can access the internet...the laptop wireless and the desktop hard wired as it is right next to the cable modem.
Is there a cheap or freeware program that would allow me to share the printer that is hooked up to the desktop wihtout the printer being wireless? Can I set up file sharing so that I can access the HUGE amount of music I have on my second hard drive for the desktop though my laptop?
I also need to transfer school projects from one computer to another.
Any ideas? It can be fairly tech oriented, as I don't mind learning how new programs work and all, but I am only a good end-user. I can't program, and if the solution is REALLY techie I may not be able to do it. lol
I am hoping there are software suites to d most of this, preferably free or on the cheap, but still secure. I had a huge identity theft problem a few years back, and I din;t want to go though ANY of that ever again.

What operating systems do you have on the laptop and desktop?
There's a good chance you don't need any additional software. Windows XP and Vista have these capabilities built in.

*nod* You won't need any special software for what you're describing. In fact, any modern operating system will walk you through the process pretty gently.

I have XP on the desktop, and I have Vista on the laptop. So there is built in networking somewhere on these OS? LOL Cool. Now I just have to find it.
Will there be a problem using the printer as long as the desktop is already on? The printer itself isn't wireless...
