With a wife who loves Pride and Prejudice, and my obsession with the zombie version due out in May, a mini-series caught my eye. For anyone that is interested in good British television, download Lost in Austen. A cotemporary woman changes places with Elizabeth and turns the whole book upside down. Hollywood even wants to Americanize it now. It was very funny, charming, and romantic.

I liked this too. Any TV show which starts out with a girl finding Elizabeth Bennet in her bathroom and the world of Pride and Prejudice inside a cupboard has to be good, right? Plus, if you know the story inside out, the way the plot unravels with Elizabeth gone is fun to watch. 'Narnia' meets 'A Yankee at the Court of King Arthur' meets 'Life on Mars'. Real feel-good TV.
If they do Americanise it, they should set it in Austin, TX.

Thanks for the reminder! A friend of mine actually mentioned this a little while ago, and I completely forgot about wanting to see it. Thank you!

I would say you would probably need to have seen at least one of the movies, which is all I am familiar with. The lead character does a decent job mentioning when she changes things.

Netflix and Amazon both list the dvd as coming out in April, for those who do not wish to download it.

I think, without the source material, it would seem strange, slightly funny, but melodramatic. With the source material as a reference,(i would include within that a passing knowledge of the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice) it's like a really, really clever, amusing fanfiction with a Mary Sue as the main character. does that help?
edit: in fact, along that vein, it actually reminds me of a "10th Kingdom" fanfiction I read one time, where the characters find out that someone has made a television show about their adventures called, strangely enough, the 10th Kingdom. There's a similar, if clunkier, revelation in this miniseries.

I just got this, and am converting it into files my DVD player can read. I plan on surprising my wife, who is a HUGE P&P fan, with it. I tried to watch it tonight, but it needed converting.

Netflix has this available now, just saw it. Fun!!
I've never read or seen Pride and Prejudice, but I thought it was great. I don't want to read about stuffy Georgian England society, so I've never wanted to read any Jane Austen. So the device of having a 21st-century character making snarky comments about the 19th-century characters made it much more appealing.
(I still don't think I ever want to read Pride and Prejudice, but the Bennett family was so lively that I can see some of the appeal of reading about them. Didn't care about any of the other characters though, and definitely didn't get the whole appeal of Mr. Darcy... but that's presumably just not a guy thing...)

My wife loved it, and even though I am not a huge fan of the books I really liked it as well.
